To NYC for a few.....anyone?

I’ll be in NYC from Dec 1-5
anyone up for a pint and tune somewhere?

I think Madden was offering last time I made note of a visit!

dm

I should note that I could have any special flute with me for interested eyes.

I thought John Madden was from the Oakland area??

i think i meant Tom Madden
unless I’ve got it wrong

A certain other person by that name is who I was actually in my mind. . .

[But she’s one of those silverflute types. Sheesh!

EDIT: Ugh, sorry for double post.

ah, yes…she

i’m still waiting for her to make good on a promise to visit while in Denver.

We’ll see, eh?

Maybe, I am only about an hour from NYC.

David - I’ve never seen a post from Tom Madden on this list. Shoot it out to woodenflute.com/ or email him directly.

(POP!! - stepping from fireplace, brushing away flue dust…)

Here I am guys! I do pop in here from time to time Bill, just don’t have much to say

David - it would be great to see you - how about the Porterhouse session on Sunday - I’m sure Linda would like the company. If you can’t get a ride up there you can grab a bus from the Port Authority terminal at 42nd and 8th to my neighborhood, and we can ride up together.

Tom

tom
i was indeed thinking of the porterhouse again. linda and i have chatted about it.
can you email me privately and we can discourse on this.
dmigoya (at) denverpost.com
thanks

David,

If you think you could handle Brooklyn, I’d love to get together for a few tunes. You could even play the R&R with the new hj, and the Hawkes and Son
pratten I recently aquired. And, okay, if the flutes aren’t enticing enough, I could also put you up. Again, that’d be in Brooklyn! Email me and we’ll talk about it!

Arbo

If anyone is interested, please join us at the Porterhouse Pub in Montvale NJ on Sunday starting at 5pm.

Flute player and singer Linda Hickman and fiddle player Rose Flanagan lead the session (on the first and third Sunday of every month), and lots of the area’s great players come out to join them. Session level varies from strong beginner to the occasional speed demon expert-wannabee; the session “alphas” do a great job of making sure everyone gets some tunes in. C&F special content - whistle maker John Sindt frequently sits in.

Hope to see you all there. I for one, will be curious to see if David is eating meat after his recent (and highly acclaimed) expose of certain meat packing industry abuses.

All the best,

Tom

i had a wonderful Argentine steak just last night downtown, then went to see the new Lloyd Weber musical, The Lady in White. Great show, although second half is better.

I’ll be there Sunday with bells, Tom (and anyone else…Arbo…take a cab, dude!)

I have my Clementi/Nicholson with me this trip.
I wanted to bring a new (well…new to me) Boosey-Pratten, but it was kinda wonky the other morning…mostly my lip, so I went with the master flute.

Anyway…bring tunes!

dm

What a great session!
Thanks again to everyone for a great evening. Fun tunes and chatter.

Paddy Ward showed up, as did Tom Madden.
What a flute section, with Linda Hickman rounding it out (and a student of hers, Mr. McGann (sp??)).

What fun..

next time for sure again!

dm

Sorry I missed it. Ice weather for the long drive home, we opted out after numerous phone calls. Maybe next time!

Lesl

Yeah - at one point we had to ask John Nolan to play his button box a little louder - he was getting drowned out by all the flutes! Still - we did miss Lesl.

For the record let me say - David Migoya can play!

It was a lovely session, if perhaps a tad flute heavy. We could have stood a few more fiddles (Rose Flanagan was not there that night), but other than that I though it was sounding pretty good with 5 flutes, button box, whistle (John Sindt), fiddle, banjo, guitar/bodhran player, pipes - practice set, mandolin, and bouzouki.

A special treat was the look on Mike McGann’s face when Paddy Ward walked in carrying the new flute Mike had on order from him. I’ve seen John Sindt do that too - personally deliver a new instrument to its owner. It must be the best part of being an instrument maker.

David, I hope you will let us know next time you come this way. I look forward to doing this again.

All the best,

Tom
