We have a traditional session in Concord, NH, every Tuesday night from 7-10 PM (or longer if the energy is good). Music ranges from slow to fast. Sometimes only four or five players, sometimes fifteen. Friendly session. Some free pints. We have enough bodhrans, thank you. We don’t really need any red-box polka players, either. Aside from that we aren’t really very snobby. This is a very traditional Clare-based session.
It all happens at The Barley House, on Main Street, just across from the State House-- which you can’t possibly miss. Very friendly wait-staff, good food.
Nice.. I’ll probably see you there next Tuesday. You’ll recognize me as the young whippersnapper whose lips have turned to jelly and can’t play in tune to save his life.
Chris
OK, I could do something suave like look it up on a map, but because I’m a girl I have to talk about everything at length …
Would Concord be, say, within 3 hours’ drive of Cabot, VT? I’ll be up there early July for my fella’s mom’s 80th birthday, and since we just CANCELLED OUR TRIP TO IRELAND for it (no bitterness here, I swear
), I think they can spare me at least one AWOLBCIASFGS (Away Without Leave, But C’mon, It’s A Session For Blank’s Sake!) …
Then, David, you can laugh (or despair) at the Hammy’s intricate – and attractive if I do say so myself – hair-elastic adornment.
All right, NOW I’ll go look at a map.

View this as either your heads-up or your Get-Out-of-Dodge Alert:
I aim to be there July 6th, and I’ll be packin’ me a fiddle player, too.

maybe i’ll make it up there too on july 6
Sounds like a great party. Count me in. I’ll be there, in spirit at least.
This looks worth flying over from Ireland for. Count me in too!
If Daithi is coming you’d be a fool to stay away.
I pity the fool.

And I may be a fool, but hardly one to be pitied.
David and I met last night and had a great time.
Before the session we had a fantastic dinner (thanks to David’s wife who is a wonderful cook), some beautiful tunes and a good chat. I got to see photos of David’s new place in Ireland which is going to be just gorgeous. I also got a chance to try out some of David’s beautiful flutes, including a fully keyed Olwell in cocus (I’d trade my firstborn) and an original Rudall with an Olwell head. Marvelous stuff. As I’m sure most of you already know David is one heck of a player, with gorgeous tone, a lovely style and the best sort of tunes. It was a true pleasure to meet him and spend some time with him.
Afterwards we went down to the session in Concord which was a great time with a great crowd, nice music, a wonderful atmosphere and a very nice barstaff.
Thanks to David and the rest of the music gang in Concord.
Chris
Oh, how you toy with me. ![]()
Chris: Have you considered a career as a travel writer?
And David: Have you considered opening some sort of FluteHaven B&B?
Anyway, I hope y’all can make it/be in town/etc. on the 6th. We’re really looking forward to it, and to meeting you guys!
xo,
cat.
P.S. Any additional orders for Cabot cheese, please advise by June 28.
The man is fishing for another free dinner.
Okay, how about this, the next time I’ll cook up hotdogs and tater-tots and bring a case of Budweiser. All you have to do is provide the ambience and some good music. Deal?
Chris
TATER-TOTS?? ![]()
I’M THERE, MAN!!
I’d hold out for the pork-rinds, myself ![]()
Mary

Packing up the Hammy and heading north tomorrow.
Consider yourself warned.
Hope to see you guys Tuesday!
