What do people use for Tipple flute cases?
I’ve half a mind to build one for myself if I can’t buy an affordable off the self
box.
The basic carpentry seems straight foward, but what would you do for the interior?
Any suggestions? Thanks.
I don’t use a case for my Tipple. I just carry it in a soft cloth bag with pockets for each section.
You could look through old posts for flute boxes/cases. We’ve discussed making them in the past. It’s a fun project.
Craft and hobby shops frequently carry small plain pine boxes. You could get lucky and find one the proper size. You’ll have to make the section seperators yourself. A lattice of craft sticks with half-lap joints will do. Hot glue is enough to hold them in place usually. If you start from scratch you can use proper cabinet joinery to hold things together.
There are a couple of ways to line a wooden case. Spray on contact adhesive and felt will work. Look at Woodcraft or similar shops for the supplies they carry to line jewelry boxes and the like. They carry self-stick felt squares. A layer of foam padding can be nice. You can step the fabric up a notch by using velvet. I’ve also used Polar Fleece. You can mount the fabric to a cardboard insert if you want it to be removable.
If you really want to go nuts, you can make a custom fitted interior by molding foam cradles for each piece using expanding foam. You’ll find examples for other types of cases on YouTube as guidelines. Use plain pipe for the mold dummies. Cover the foam, once it has set, with cloth as in the above.

Thanks Feadoggie!
As always, your advice is the shizzle.
A simple, low tech, low cost approach I’ve used is something like this: I find my local cigar store and look through their collection of empty cases. For about four dollars I’ve gotten finely crafted case made of ‘Spanish Cedar’. I’ve had to pay as much as six dollars for the really higher grade ones. If you want to go hog wild you can replace the hardware with small brass hinges and clasps, but for a Tipple I might not go that far. You can cover the exterior in leatherette (or vinyl)., to cover over the 'branding burned into the wood. A trip to the Fabric store gets some plush. I usually use raw wool wadding, such as sold for foot comfort, think Dr. Scholl’s. for the bumpers and padding. I use Barge Cement (any contact glue will do) sparingly with strategically placed staples. For the dividers I will cannabilize another cigar case. Simple, light, relatively strong, and reasonable.
