flute cases

Could yous recommend good addresses (homepages, pics, prices) for wooden flute cases?
Cheers,
Hans

Hi Hans,

Do you mean wooden cases for flutes or cases for wooden flutes?

Doc

A few ideas here:

One of my neighbours makes very nice cases. He machines out blocks of hardwood. Just bought one last week for my Wooff C flute. It’s made from a solid block of mahogany with a soft padded lining and is just lovely. Cost 40 euros.
He used to sell through Custy’s but they get their cases elsewhere these days.

Edited to add pics. Pics are not so well set up, sorry about that, it started to rain and I needed to be very quick. The two parts, top and bottom are each one piece of wood. The whistlebox on the cover of Brid O Donohue’s CD was made by the same man, a custon job to suit a number of whistles.

Pistol cases, for about ten bucks, work very well.

This is what I use, but I bought one that was a bit more than $10. I love it to death.

Thanks for that, Peter. Do they fit most 5 piece flutes as standard - or does he make them to fit?

And do they fit 8-keyed flutes - I notice the flute in the picture looks like keyless, and with a short foot?

regards,
p

Here’s the story: my neighbour does metal work, to do the cases he first has to clean all the machines so he works batches. The last batch was made to specifications supplied by Custy’s : inside measurements 415x75 mm with a divider in the middle (around 3 or 4 mm thick and part of the block of wood so it won’t move).

Last week I had the impression there were a few boxes in stock but that there wasn’t going to be a new batch soon. There were some unfinished boxes on the shelf in the workshop. I’ll go ask tomorrow what the story is.

(I don’t own one of these. Looks nice though)

Probably a bit expensive, but nice cases.

It’s a thread so near and dear to my heart…

A few nights in the home shop, and no fingers lost. For those who may have seen these photos a year ago, it’s now a year later and it still hasn’t warped or cracked, and it’s survived all the stress tests I’ve (inadvertantly) subjected it to. Whew!

(thanks for looking!)

Just to say I talked to my neighbour, he has a few standard cases (as described above) and timber cut for another ten. But he’s busy and suggested I deal with orders, which wasn’t exactly my intention. Contact me to see what the situation is.
