Tipple Eb

I just received a grey PVC tunable flute in Eb from Doug Tipple. I must say, he is doing something correct these days. This flute plays great and nicely in tune as well.

Hi Wolvy,

I now have a Tipple D in three pieces. As I’m pretty much a beginner, I’m not really able to comment much about the playability of my triple Tipple, but I will say this. The hardest thing for me at this point is holding the darn thing comfortably, thankfully the flute is in three pieces and therefore I can rotate the positiion of the holes between the left and right hands. I think the thing that makes this particular flute difficult to hold is the rather large diameter, it’s over 1" (one inch) .

Is this sort of large for a flute diameter?

I was lucky enough to get to try Wolvy’s new Tipple Eb, and I loved it. This one’s in the gray PVC and looks great.

I compared it with my older 1-piece Tipple D. I think I still like the tone of the white PVC just a little bit better, but it’s a darned close call. I think the Eb is a little easier to play, which says a lot because that D is already very easy. (I do still have a little trouble with hole coverage from time to time, as my fingers aren’t all that big, but a little hand lotion helps the seal a LOT.)

Getting to play with that Eb has convinced me that I need a new Tipple flute soon. Now I’ve got to decide whether to get that 3-piece D I was considering or see if Doug would make an Eb in the polished white…!

Decisions, decisions.
