Latest prototype PVC flute from Robert Tipple

Hi y’all,

I’ve been testing the prototype of Doug’s latest 3 piece PVC flute design, am very impressed so far. This is a later model than the 3 piece design that he currently offers on eBay.

I can’t disclose much about it at this time since I don’t know his intentions about whether he will offer this model, but would like to share a quick recording I made this morning:

Michael,

I wonder if your post is the Universe telling me I should go ahead and buy a new Tipple flute?

I’ve got one of his earlier 1-piece low D flutes with the offset finger holes. I like it, but I keep seeing all these improvements he’s making and, coupled with watching a friend buy a beautiful $1400 Cadillac of a flute recently, it’s got me thinking I should at least buy SOMETHING. Why not another Tipple?

Doug replied to my e-mail inquiry the other day, saying he’s got a 3-piece tunable low D for $65 + shipping. Do you think that’s the same one he’s got you trying out, or is that a different model?

Just wondering if I should order now, or if there’s something even better just around the next bend?

Thanks!

Daryl

The flute I’m testing is using a grey, heavier PVC with a modified embrochure cut that give the flute a darker tone than the white PVC. I have both the prototype 3-piece white PVC and grey PVC flutes and they both have a very nice sound, the white seems louder and less complex in tone, the grey more “woody” in sound. If you order one and want the grey PVC, be sure to let Robert know as its not a standard model.

Thanks Michael!

I got a reply from Doug Tipple the other day in response to my question to you here. He’s injured his shoulder, so his flute making is on hold while he heals.

I wish him well. I think I’ll use the extra time to figure out which one I want to get (and to save my pennies again after last weekend’s adventures at the veterinarian’s office).
