This weeks Ebay Flute (New one...)

I know it has been a while, what, a week?
This is a nice little William Hall 6 key flute I just finished.
I think it is a lot closer to Grey Larson’s Firth and Pond, but go figure, Hall wasn’t there…
For the little tone holes it has a big tone.

Before..

After..

The flute had a couple of interesting old repairs. Incapculated barrels and big metal bands. Though the flute is probably made after the Civil War, it looks like it might have perticipated… :boggle: I managed to keep all the original pieces, except for the female slide and old ivory rings.

Nice work Jon!

Thanks.
Now I have to get your German flute looking this nice…

How does it play?

Hi,
Quite nice tone, (not like the McCrud flutes) very responsive, not overly loud, kind of a small holed R&R feel about it. The internal tuning of the flute is very good. It was originally designed for 430 Htz. but with the damaged lower section socket, I figured I might as well leave that 5 mm off. this brought it in perfect 440 tuning.
It turns out the flute is a pre-civil war flute"1840’s" so maybe it was taken into battle, that would explain the heavy armor that was on the barrel…

I bought the following remnants of the elusive Rudall’s Improved Perfected 8000 Model off of Ebay.

I sent it off to Jon and he repaired it overnight and sent it back to me. Looking like this:

The resemblance to a Wilkes is uncanny. Thus leading me to believe that Chris bases his flute upon the elusive Improved Perfected Model as well!

Seriously, I suspect that Jon has stolen several elves from St. Nic. and is using them as slave labor. After Christmas carefully tally your alotment of gifts and if it falls short of last years tally (plus 6% for inflation and cost of living increases) then we will know conclusively that Santa is shorthanded!

Remarkable! It really does look like a Wilkes.

Well done, Jon. Please keep the photos coming.

You guys are killing me!
Okay Jim you asked for it…
Here is a crown I just turned for my antique Boxwood Metzler. It is made from Pre-ban Ivory and the center threaded cork shaft is made form 30,000 year old woolly Mammoth ivory! I stained the ivory by soaking it in a triple expesso (No, I did not drink the expresso afterwards!)
