In light of recent threads regarding commercial posts and such, I felt inclined to say something positive. I have neither the experience nor the clout to post an opinion either way on the issues being debated. At the same time, please don’t take this post as “excited newbie tries to gain approval from the board”. I just wanted to say what I really feel…
This is without a doubt the most intelligent, thoughtful, and well-mannered collective on the net. I have tried to join in on other boards whose topics of interest range from comic strips, to music, to religion, to politics. So far, I have found a bunch of bickering, whining, and mindless name-calling of the most juvenile sort.
Doubtless, other conflicts have arisen on this board long before I was here, and probably much more severe. Of course, in a group this size, there are bound to be. But overall, this board has been to me a retreat and a very comfortable place. I haven’t been here that long, but I already feel at home, so to speak.
Ok, this is a pretty sappy post. I’ll stop now. But I’m glad I said it.
Silverton, your 2 cents is well spent. This truly is a great group of people. Such a dynamic cross-section of intelligent souls. Even most of the jerks are loveable. The ‘flame wars’ are usually just debates between people that have a passion for what they believe in. I believe that I actually interact with people in real life better after watching fellow C&Fers rake each other over the coals…'cause it’s always done so lovingly
Anyhoo, enjoy your sentence..errr…time here!
Eric
PS
Since you are new here, my avatar is me at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean wearing a Chiff & Fipple sweatshirt holding a Dixon tunable D in my hand. That kinda gives you an indication of how I feel about this place!
When you blow into something as humble as a whistle for hours as a hobby…you don’t have enough falurum left to be really stupid. Just my theory.
As another newbie, I agree with Silverton. This place is awesome.
I was wondering why I keep coming back. It’s the reliable, clear-headed people who demonstrate balance, tolerance, and a good sense of humor. I look for threads about whistle playing and the music- heh, heh- they’re the exception. The hope of a good laugh is always a draw in lieu of that.
The gathering of C&Fers I met at Weekender’s house a few months ago was like seeing old friends, though I’d never met them before. Totally real people; no pretentions, no baggage. (Murphy Stout’s hairstyle, on the other hand…)

I couldn’t say it better. Considering the nature of forums and the size of this one, it is expected to have a disagreement here and there. However from what I’ve seen, the positive around here definately outweighs the negative stuff.
The hair again? Come on now, that’s a low blow. I mean I didn’t mention the tux and you come at me with a hair comment. Actually I thought it was James Bond at first but then I thought he’d be playing the flute not the whistle.

Try here for a change
I must agree. I too have been a member of a number of internet comunities. And with the exception of this one and the Pagan communities that I’m a member of I would have to say that a great many people act with total disrespect to others. Now I wouldn’t consider myself a Well known name around here, But quite a few of the regulars know me, and I realize that I can sometimes get a bit childish, but it’s all in good fun. I do not set out to put anyone down or make them feel uncomfortable. Even when I do act vulgar . In most cases as Alan would say, “You have to take Justin with salt.”
This is how its been around here for me for a long time… Until last night. I joined the Live chat rather early in the morning as I sometimes do, and Was telling of the great time I had at Celtic fest Listening to Seamus Kennedy. When someone I have never seen before on the message board or in the live chat Kicked me. I thought perhapse maybe it was a mistake. I rejoined the chat and before I could even get a word out as to why I was kicked, the same guy/girl did it again . Now this was starting to anoy me , luckily after about four or five times one of the Other people with OP privilages De-Oped this person and he/she left soon after . I must say this; Is it necissary for all those present in a chat to be an OP? And for those who would like to pass on OP privilages I ask them to please know the person you are about to OP. Remember some people just surf around mIRC trying to find people to PISS off. Spammers, slammers, booters, and overflowers are all out there just looking to get someone else’s blood pressure up .
Other than my experiences last Night I must say that in general this is a very well behaved group that I am proud to call myself a member of.

Darling, it was moi who was the OP who kicked you out. You were speaking some really vulgar stuff, and you weren’t in under your screen name so myself and another member who I was PMing (but who shall remain nameless unless s/he chooses to speak up) agreed that you were a troll and needed kicked out. So, I kicked you out. Three times.
It was 4 in the morning, to be fair, and we didn’t consult the entire room, it was just chatter amongst us.
I had my OP taken away by Moonlight, but I was getting ready to leave anyway because I was zonked.
Everybody has OP because we’re all nice people who don’t abuse the privilage, usually.
I don’t use my screen name Because Cyfiawnder doesn’t fit. Comes up Cyfiawnde. And as I recall you weren’t happy about having your OP status taken away. And YOU seamed to be the most upset about my Discussing the topic of an IRISH musician’s anecdotal stories. Anyone who has seen Seamus Kennedy or heard him knows he likes to tell stories, and being that I was asked about the stories he told I feel that you had no right to Kick me. Yes I was asked, if you remember I joined the chat and said that I had seen Seamus play at Bethlehem Celtic Fest,
and we started discussing how “Odd” he was. Then I was asked if he told a story about I don’t remember what… Which I replied “No but he did tell a story about a woman flatulating in her boyfriends car with his parrents sitting in the back seat.” If you get that upset over the natural occurances of human physiology then you are the one with the problem, not I. This is a group of people, and online Community, and the Letter “I” is quite a small percentage of that word, and it comes in right close to the end. So I ask of you the next time you decide to kick anyone because of what the are talking about, consult the rest of the community if their feelings are the same, if they are not than I suggest you use the mute command so you don’t see what that person writes.
Thank You
JUSTIN
I’m usually the one being told this, but this time all I can say is lighten up a little bit. It’s just a chat room. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, so yeah. Sorry (again).
