I too am grateful for the civil nature of this forum. A few years ago I was studying for a professional exam, and there was a forum devoted to getting info and helping others work problems for the test. Of course we all got off-topic from time to time, but some of the posts got downright nasty and vulgar. I’m no prude, but some of the stuff would have made Jerry Springer blush. I was glad to pass my exam and not visit that place anymore. This forum is definitely well-run by Dale and Rich, as well as self-regulated by the good folks who hang out here.
Justin, it’s good to see you again! I hope all is well with you. I was wondering about you not too long ago, noticed you hadn’t really been around on the board, and then voila! There you were. It’s magic!
This board has afforded me the chance to get to know a lot of really wonderful people, so I will always be grateful to Dale and Rich for opening the door to allow that happen. There will be temper-tantrums from time to time, especially with such a large group of people who have strong and diverse opinions… but it’s been a beautiful thing to see how things always smooth over here as we retrieve our senses of humor and get back to Lee’s order of “Enjoy Your Music”.
Long live C&F and those who make it happen!!
Blessings of light and inspiration to all,
~Andrea
This spring I retired from a job that involved a lot of interaction with others. I knew I had to have something other than keeping house and cooking for my working wife. I also figured the Cubs wouldn’t make it into post season play and I’d be in a very quiet, maybe lonely, place about now. First I decided to attempt to learn about whistles. I found C&F, was encouraged by correspondence with Dale, bought my first whistle, and began to frequent this board.
I hang out here several times a day. Good place, good advice, and I’ve come to feel - good friends. I try to avoid the conflicts, but they remind me that there are people who say and write things that I hope I’m never guilty of saying or writing. I’m glad they’re in the minority here.
I just wanted to say thankyou. I depend on this board for information and a feeling of belonging somewhere. I’m learning to play whistle and loving it. The C&Fers that I met at festivals in St Louis & Milwaukee were great ambassadors for the community. Keep being yourselves and I’ll learn to ignore the idiots.
It wasn’t many moons ago in a discussion about censorship that you said you were against it in all forms, and people should be allowed to say anything they wanted to. I paraphrase, but that was the gist of it.
Has the experience of C&F changed your views to the extent that you have now appointed yourself a censor for the community?
If Justin was saying anything that could be construed as offensive, did anybody ask him politely to stop before opting for rustication?

We didn’t think Justin was a person, you see. We though he was a troll and trolls don’t have the same rights as persons.
I found Stevie Js site and learned how to whistle, or at least obtained the tools to become a whistler in the Irtrad.
I found out about Mike BUrkes whistles, bought some, and am very happy. But I also know of some other makes that I may someday own.
In the same vein, I discovered that it was the cheapo whistles, not me, that couldn’t play certain notes, etc etc. without tweaking. Also, finding out how to loosen the head so I could tune the things with other instruments was super-valuable..
I learned excellent new tunes to play which my band plays to this day. Also learned about other artists in the trad, whose CDs I very much enjoy. Very happy with my Clare tunes, thanks to Peter and Stevie.
Made friends with Stout and Tony and Blackhawk and anytime you make friends is a good time. I have also very much enjoyed some transcontinental net friends and hope to meet em all someday.

Trolls DO have the same rights as persons, at least here in the USA they do. These folks have always been a foundation of the bridge maintenance industry, and continue to collect tolls on many interstate bridges of great importance, or just on the highways themselves. Toll trolls are an important part of society Cramberry and you should not make such statements. So there.
Seriously, with regards to being sappy, I have learned more about music in general in 7 months on C&F than I ever learned in school music class, band, and chorus put together. And it’s because the people here are so generous with sharing information and experiences.
I’ve also met some really wonderful people. Well, I’ve never met any of them. But I plan to.

Hey I’m not a troll. They’re stinky and eat dead things. I’m a Gryphon. I took one of those “What mythological creature are you?” Tests a while back and my answers got me my Honorary Gryphondom. I even have a silver Gryphon Pentant surorunded by Celtic Notwork hanging from my neck right now. Some things you should know about Gryphons: They are Honorable, Depenadable, and unfortunately have the tendancy to bite heads off of people when pravoked, and they are really horrible spellers
So Marry Meet to You Cran, glad to meet ya.
Next time cut me a slice before you boot me,
Or I might be forced to Eat Ya

I’de hate to say it but it sounds like I’m a V.D. now, well all except for the magic part. Justin-P the magical reapearing wart. Just Kidding ok I’ll stop now. I’ll be around more often now that I once again have my own internet… Good to see you too.
Too all the stars that gather
Up in the sky so bright
I look to you with sleepy thoughts
And Wish to you goodnight. (Me Just now I wrote it)
