Thinking about selling - M&E 5-key lefty

Hi folks.
If anyone is a lefty player and is in need of a keyed instrument I’m thinking about selling my beloved M&E.

M&E Rudall and Rose model in polymer with tuning slide, nickel silver rings and five sterling silver pin mounted, left handed keys (D#, short F, G#, A# and C). Comes in a hard case, and has besides the standard headjoint, a semi-lined Cocobolo headjoint with more of a prattenesque embouchure.

The folks who have been around awhile know how much I love this instrument, and I still do. However, I play very little flute outside my band these days, and the Seery (with the just intonation and easier 1st octave) gets the most play.
The M&E is a real honker. I’ve played flutes three times the price and always came back to that one. It’s a one of a kind flute, and comes with the first (and only?) unlined M&E headjoint.
Other than that, the flute is what you should expect from M&E. Solid, sturdy workmanship with less care taken to aestethics and more to playability and function. It plays like the best of them with a true Rudall (if there’s such a thing) sound and feel to it.
A couple of minor issues. The Cocobolo barrel has a crack which has been crudly repaired with super glue. It doesn’t affect playing, but it’s not exactly invisible. The Cocobolo head can be made to work with the polymer barrel using some teflon tape if this is an issue.
It might need a repadding and overlook of the keys soon. I can send it to Michael before the sale if the buyer wishes, or you could just do it yourself.

Here’s a soundclip I recorded long ago where you’ll hear the Cocobolo head first, then the poly head. This was acctually an experiement where I played two times through on both heads, the first time normally and the second time just trying to force as much volume out as possible without regards to anything else.

and here’s another old clip recorded with a slightly better mic. Just the poly head in this one.

And here’s another thread with a little bit more info and pictures of this flute (together with a McGee and a Cochran)

I’m thinking around a 900 USD (or 670 Euro) + shipping for this flute, but sling me an offer and I will consider it. I think all in all I’ve paid around 1300 USD for it myself, and it should have been more, considering all I got, but Michael is very modest and would rather charge to little than to much. This flute was custom made, so the price lists don’t really apply.

Cheers

Could it be true? I think Michael’s sales figures will probably plummet because of this.

maybe I should add: I didn’t pay 1300 USD for it, but the amount of Euro I’ve paid for it in total amounts to about 1300 USD today.

 Yeah, that’s what happens when you get SEERYous about your music! You don’t even need no stinkin’ keys then!!! Right on Brother Henrick!

Good deal for a Lefty 5 key though, especially with the nicer Sterling keys, and an extra Cocobolo headjoint! I used to have an M&E with two different poly headjoints, and that was really nice to be able to have the choice-it’s like having two flutes.

Hehe, yeah. I acctually still like the sound and presence of the M&E more than the Seery. But the Seery is a little less demanding, and it sounds that little bit better when played with others because of the even scale. You don’t notice it at all for sessions and gigs, but it’s noticeable when recording.
Michael gave me a great deal on this custom model, so I would feel terrible asking any more for it, even though it should be worth it.

If I was still playing flute as much as a year or two ago, I’d never part with this flute. But I’m not, other things in my life have become more important.

Bump.

I’m not going to actively adveritise this sale any further. I’ll keep it until a buyer pops up from no-where. If any of you guys find anyone in the market for this kind of flute, I’d appreciate very much if you point them in my direction. The flute is for sale until otherwise stated. There’s a good chance it’ll still be available in a year…

Cheers
