Hi everyone.
I’m going to Edinburgh in the beginning of may. Does anyone now of any nice pub with live music/sessions there to visit? I have a day to spare so if you have any recommendations I’d appreciate it.
If you know any nice music store I’d appreciate that to.
“Sandy Bell’s”, Forrest Hill Road, I think - for music.
“Coda” have [ or used to have ] a good selection of traditional music recordings - on “The Mound”.
You can “google” for more precise addresses / directions -
Good luck. Kenny
Wed 9pm - Canons Gait, Royal Mile
Tue and thur (I think) - Whiski Bar, Royal Mile
Thur - Antiquary, Stockbridge
Sandy Bells sessions at the weekend (4pm-7 ish sat, then 9pm) are usually fast, and
not for the faint hearted! Was listening to Cathal McConnell play there last sat - excellent
stuff, and what a character!
Something has happened at the Captains Bar (not sure what), so dont think you will
hear any trad there anymore.
(I’ll be in Ullapool that weekend, where Claire Mann will be teaching the flute workshop
at Feis Rois … only 4 hours from Edinburgh)
Sandy Bell’s would have to win some kind of award for long-term services to trad music. I’ve been there every time I’ve been in Edinburgh, starting in 1974, a frightening 39 years ago. Then again, I’ve also been to the Edinburgh University flute collection every time I’ve been to Edinburgh. But you expect museums to hang around.
