Hey, I just got a copy of “An Gaoth Aduaidh - The North Wind: Solo flute playing from the Irish tradition”. Its a tribute to the late Frankie Kennedy featuring the following players: Harry Bradley, Briain O’Domhnaill, Gary Hastings, Conor Byrne, Gerry O’Donnell, Marcas O’Murchu, Matt Molloy, Desi Wilkinson, Hammy Hamilton, Clodach Nic Ruairi, Paul O’Shaughnessy, Tara Bingham, and Paul McGrattan. I think the proceeds go to benefit the Frankie Kennedy Winter School.

I mention it here because its a superb CD! I highly recommended it. Its been out since 2004, so it must be old news for many on the forum, but I thought it was worth posting for anyone new. I only started recently and have been gathering my own collection of wooden flute music. I have seen the Wooden Flute Obsession CDs mentioned very frequently (and I have them all), but I haven’t seen this one mentioned anywhere. I just stumbled across it. Its every bit as good as any of the WFO CDs in my opinion. Here is where I got my copy:

Yep,I’ll second that…
I received my copy from Celtic Grooves as well…Philippe Varlet runs this company and is a very helpful bloke…
It only arrived yesterday but from what I’ve heard,there’s some really nice fluting on this CD…

Is this solo flute by itself on this CD or is there backing music of some kind? If there is backing music, what’s it like?

I’ve bought a flute CD or two that has great flute playing but really awful background guitar or piano behind it which ruins the whole album.
