The Great Serpent Whistle Treasure Hunt!

Well, I asked, and Dale hasn’t told me that I can’t, so here goes…

This is a simple contest running over the next few weeks. You are looking for clues to tell you where to send an email at Yahoo. If you figure it out and send the first one, you get a brand-new Brass Serpent high-D tunable. The clues are not necessarily in order.

Clue #1 - In the song, “An Maighdean Mhara”, what is plentiful?

Good luck!
Serpent

(edited to indicate the correct key. There is no such animal (yet) as a “low-D Brass Serpent tunable”. However, if the winner wants to pick a different existing whistle or flute, s/he may do that, too. Sorry for the confusion!)

I’m tired of my signature, so I decided to not have one any more.

Kool game :sunglasses:

How often are the clues going to be given, Mr. Ssssserpent?

Susan

(Also keeping this at the top of the board)

Sorry, should’ve explained better.
The clues will come out one per week, and there will be a total of four. Last one will come out week ending 20 December.

(edit) Did you think I’d make it easy?

I’m workin on it Serp! Great fun! I’m getting close to the first clue answer!

If I win could you do the pretty jewelry thing with hummingbirds and flowers on it? Yeahhhhh, I like that idea!

Kathy

Everyone - Since I opened it up, if you want a whistle other than the Brass Serpent Tunable High-D, you may choose any whistle or flute from the site, which is presently undergoing changes. It will be totally updated by Monday following Thanksgiving, plenty of time for the lucky winner to make a choice.

Decorated or undecorated, your choice, also. Anything you see on the site by close of the contest, will be fair game - if I’m doing the colours by then, that’s cool, too.

Just do be sure of one thing, though - this Treasure Hunt is not going to be a “gimme”!

Next clue will be posted on Tuesday, December 3, 2002.

Ok, Beal, here’s the dill.

You get me some democratically fair prime on your hints–you know I’m a minority, I’m slow, I’m jet lagged. So I get like a one week advance thru Private Messages, ok ?

Now, you understand I don’t want any unfair advantage beside my minority, jet laggedness (-ship ? ), and being born in a tough neighbourhood.
Like real, real heavy, man. Downtown Saigon, 19XX year of the Horse, St-Vincent-de-Paul’s Horsepital,
yeah man 'tis but sadly true,
would I bullshit yew ?
You kids here had a rubber giraffes, we had to stroke python sloughings (when lucky). However, when growing up farther north in Pleiku, I regretted Saigon, though we did have fun with tigers and them red ants…
Ok, I sense you can be a totally how insensetez longhorn bully, so here’s the bribe, hell let’s talk business.

  1. I tell you who really are Porridge AND ManUnited. It’s a bundled deal.
  2. I teach you how Fabergé smithed Nevada-silver horseshoes on circus fleas.
  3. I stop taunting you in French. Or mildly, just for sports-a.
  4. I give you the real recipe–not the demo version posted elsewhere on cheaper threads–of Wasp Jam. And believe me, this has nothing to do with an Anglican Session.

serp, can we ask (via email) if weve got it right?

Okay, here’s a hint. The song is in Gaelic, the title means “The Maiden of the Sea”, and what I’m looking for is the English -or- Gaelic word for that which is plentiful. If you can find the song and figure it out, which is not all as difficult as it looks, given that there are translations around on the Web, well, then you’ll know, and won’t need to ask.

The clues are difficult, but not obscure, and there are no tricks to them. You just have to do the research. It’s fun! You get a new song, you learn something about Gaelic, and you’re only three steps away from winning a whistle!

I’m sorry, Zoob, but there ain’t no way that your poor attempts at insulting me are gonna work. Remember, on this board, I’ve been insulted by a large segment of the population, already! You’ll have to do better than wasp jam recipes, too. There are no wasps around, and I’d have to wait until summer to see whether you were just BS-ing me!

Oh, c’mon, folks! You could have a brand-new Serpent Whistle for the holiday season, absolutely free (and, according to some, worth every cent)! At least give it a shot!

Cheers,
Serpent

I’ve got the first clue, Serp, just waiting for the second!

Ok, I know it’s a bit fishy…

Is that it? Gawd, I’m here scouring the lyrics for anything REMOTLY plentifull, shesh…

If it’s it, then I’m just really lucky with yet another one of me silly posts

What d’ya think, I’m after that Serpent Fabergé cloisonné like anyone else, so I won’t give you the keys of the cupboard where me money lies, you knnniggget!

Dat one ? Why ?

I’m not getting it. I scoured several translations to English, plus looked all over the online dictionaries, and I can’t see anything in the song that is “plentiful”. Flowing, yes. But not plentiful. There be a difference, and none of the etymologies came even close.

I did learn summat, tho - if you want a clue to most European languages, you gotta learn Sanskrit.

Anyway, Serp, if the answers to the clues can be either in Anger-ish or Garlic, how are we supposed to guess your email address at yahoo? Wouldn’t it have to be in one or the other, but not both, languages?
