Don’t Sindts sell for about $80? $150 per whistle smells to me like gouging. Let the buyers beware.

You really shouldn’t underestimate the value of NOT having to wait 6 months (or however long)…It’s worth quite a bit to many.

Mr or Ms GFOX:
With all do respect, I take umbrage at your remarks to my Posting in regards to my selling Prices for my 2 Sindt Whistles.
Good quality Instruments Mr Fox as you may learn at some point, will always go up in value, and if the original supplier can’t meet demand for his product, others that have his instruments on hand and available for sale will certainly benefit from their wise decision to have purchased those instruments at an early date.
I’ve never regretted paying a premium price for a fine quality instrument. A fine quality instrument is a pleasure to view as well as to play, and if needed can readily be sold at a profit. In these days as always there is nothing shameful about making a wise decision and benefiting from it.

Mr. Fandango, on your second post to this site you are selling stuff at high profit. That’s not what this site is about.

I have a feeling that Mr. Fandango is another pseudonym. Someone who knows the procedure here, but doesn’t want to take the heat for jacking up the price of a Sindt so high.

I’ve had a lot of good experiences buying and selling things on this site, but I always check the number of posts a person has before deciding to trust them. I’ve shipped items before payment was received, and payment without seeing the item, to people who post regularly. I’m leery of someone whose first post is about items for sale.

By the way, Dixon D’s are $24 at the Whistle Shop. No waiting.

I’m sure that it has occured to Mr. Sindt and many other whistle makers that raising prices would slow down demand which would result in shorter waiting periods for fine instruments. However,to me one of the attractions of the Irish music community is an overall feeling of basic fairness. You are, of course, free to engage in the “whistle futures market” just as I am free to discuss what I consider fair pricing. Makers like Mr. Sindt et al do our community a great service by providing quality whistles at affordable prices. I, for one, would not feel comfortable reselling whistles at such high prices.

While I would not part with any of my Sindt whistles for the $150.00 figure named by the seller, I sure would have been reluctant to acquire them at that price. As I grow older I get more comfortable with taking a number, getting in line and acquiring the item directly from the maker. Of course, waiting for a new whistle is always more tolerable if you have a decent whistle at hand.

Tom D.

At such prices, IMHO we may be out of the unwritten rules which makes this place a community, not a market. A forum in the festive and communication sense, not in the sense of market fair.
I don’t know, so I’ll ask : isn’t eBay the more appropriate place to post for those who’d rather go by the market rules, when they feel like it ?

Though, even eBay stresses caveat emptor, and does publish statistics on sellers…

Dear List:
I’m withdrawing my offer to sell the Sindt Whistles and putting them back in my Whistle drawer.
It’s obvious some of the individuals posting a reply to my sale items are in fact “pricing police” and want to dictate what I should charge for the whistles.
If the price isn’t right for these individuals, your then considered suspect to do business with.
To be honest I thought I would be doing the list a favor by bringing these Whistles into the market.
Would I really make a profit on these Whistles? Not if I have to take a hour from my profession to box and send them at the post office.
So, back they go to languish in the Whistle drawer.
Not that it applies here, but if I was interested in these whistles I would have emailed the seller off list,he could have been a motivated seller and taken less!

Somebody might have if you’d supplied an email address.

Since by some miracle I still have an internet connection, I just had to post to this thread and say the following:

What the Feck is wrong with you people? Whoever Fandango is (and it is not me, nor do I know who it is), he/she was doing you people a favor, and you spit in his face, unbelievable.

It never ceases to amaze me that folks here will always beg to have first crack at good and hard to get (waiting lists etc) whistles, and then turn around a bitch when the sellser refuses to lose money by posting an asking price here that’s reasonable based on what they could get on ebay, that’s just rude.

While some of you may have thought that $150 was out of line, the fact is that in all liklihood someone on this list would have found that a fair price, or at least close enough to contact Fandango and negotiate. And while someone can still do that I suppose, the fact is that fandango will, in all liklihood, never post his/her whistles for sale here again, so you’ve ruined something for others.

The pricing police is right: Who’s to say what a whistle is worth? Many times I’ve paid more than the original price for whistles that I wanted now but couldn’t get my hands on - I, and others don’t need others to decide for us how much is too much. Ever wonder how much I paid for the O’Riordan’s I sold at such hi prices? Did you think people just gave them to me for what they paid? HA!!! I paid at least double the original selling price for my O’Riordans, and I was happy to do it. I also know that the people who bought them from me, when I had to sell them, were thrilled.

The same could be said of these Sindts, so what’s the problem? Just who do you people think was going to get hurt here? Hmm?

Mr Wombat:
Did you maybe not read the original posting?

His e-mail address was in the body of the message:
“contact off Board at… Bennc2aol.com

I take that typo as: Bennc@aol.com

Sorry, Mr. Fandango. My apologies. I didn’t read it carefully enough, but, then, I wasn’t interested in buying right now.

Fandango: I tried sending you and e-mail at Bennc@aol.com and it bounced, is there another typo in you post with the e-mail? I have a question for you.

You can use the boards private message function if you prefer not to respond publicly.

Thanks

Loren

Like you say…unbelievable. I’ve become very disillusioned as with how uncharitable folks have become as of late. I’d be very hesitant to post anything for sale here in the future, that’s for sure.

List:
sorry my mistake on my email address, I inadvertently left out a 2 in my email address
Bennc2aol.com

It now appears as if one’s chain is being jerked…

Fandango, that’s not a valid e-mail address.

Unless I’m mistaken, it’s also the ‘address’ we got in the first post. If anybody is still interested, one (remote) possibility is that the required ‘@’ should be inserted after the 2. Some email addresses do have numbers. As it happens, I’m looking for Sindts elsewhere right now.
