The Earl of Erroll

Anyone has sheet music of this melody?

Go to http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/tunefind

Type “Errol” (one L) into the search box and click Find.

Steve

Thanks, Steve! I got the sheets, but…
I meant this melody: http://www.dimlight.net/music/louigi/whistle02.mp3
Someone told me it’s called that way… Anyway, I don’t recognize it in what I got from that site… Maybe, it’s a very-very different version in the mp3?

Sorry Louigi I don’t know a tune of that name and haven’t time to download a large mp3 file just now. I just wanted to make you aware of the ABC tunefinder.
Good luck.

There seem to be three tunes in that clip, “Through the Fields”, “Man of the House” and “the Shores of Loch Riach” (Not at all sure of the spelling of that last one) … I particularly like the second tune, and the last one, that starts speeding up each time through. It is a dandy set. I’d like to know the actual name of the last one and I’d sure like to find the dots to them all as well… wonderful little group of tunes!

edited to correct my gross misjudgement of the number of tunes and missing the titles at the start.

Unless I’m very mistaken, that’s Cormac Breathnach, possibly with Martin Dunlea on guitar. The “Earl Of Errol” is Scottish song, and is none of those 3 tunes. The 1st is a recent composition. 2nd is “Man Of The House”, 3rd is “The Shores Of Lough Rea”, sometimes called “Tommy Whelan’s”. The 2nd & 3rd can be found at the “Session” website.

or “Humours Of Loughrea”.

I found the last two, but not the first. Do you know who composed it, and which album it appears on?

1st track on “Music For Whistle & Guitar” by Cormac Breathnach & Martin Dunlea. I don’t have the sleeve notes so don’t know the composer of the 1st tune, although I would guess it’s a Cormac Breathnach original. I’ll find out for you. Cormac has his own website - you could possibly get a copy direct from him that way.

Are you sure it’s not Duke of Erroll?

Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself…

Couldn’t find his website!
I really want that first tune since I like it very much! Tried to play it from ear, but it doesn’t really work, I wonder why.

I’m liking this first tune more and more as I listen to it.. thanks much for introducing me to it!

No problem! Tell me if you can play it by ear. For some reason I can’t get it!

The problem is that I think it’s being played on a whistle in the key of “B”.
If I can push the mouthpiece of a Bb in far enough to be close to the sound, I’ll try to transcribe it for you next week. Can’t do it sooner than that, I’m afraid.

This was found on an old abc file on my computer. It might be from the old days on Irtrad-L when folks posted a lot of abc tunes.

I think it might be in F. I have pulled it into the Amazing Slow-Downer program and raised the pitch to G. I am begining to get a little of it.

I played right along with the clip using a B whistle.

Obviously, I’m still a bit green on figuring out keys. I don’t own a B, … yet… but I’m finding it works well on the D whistle in the key of G (I think)

Well now, how about that?!? And I feel better, as I was coming up with the same thing, notation-wise, in my own laborious way.

Paste that abc stuff in here http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html and … voila! The very tune!
