Hi I’ve been Googling and searching all the ABC indexes that I can find for the ABC of Charlie Lennon’s Scottish Concerto Strathspey.javascript:emoticon(‘:-?’)

Can anyone post a version?

I had a listen to this on the way in to work, and it doesn’t sound too difficult, so I’ll have a try but it will take a few days. First impressions were that it is probably in “A”, and that it goes down on to the “low” string on the fiddle, ie - lower than we can get on flute or “D” whistle. Anyway, a fine composition, which I think could well be passed off as Scottish.
My music theory and use of “abcs” is pretty basic, so although I can probably pick out the notes, you may have to figure out the rhythm and in particular the “Scottish snap” emphasis for yourselves. I’ll do my best, but be patient.

Well it will be 4/4 for a Strathspey and I really mean 4/4 not like a Reel which is cut time. I would guess it is in A as Lunasa (well actually Sean with Donogh and Trevor) play it in a set with two other tunes one in A and one in F#m (relative to A major). Thanks.

Trickier than I thought, but here’s the basic abcs. I’ll comment more tomorrow. key is A major , so all "G"s are sharp.

Sorry about the mistake in the transcription and thanks for the correction. I’ve edited it. I don’t have the ability at the moment to check “abcs”, because of a computer crash. I did try the conversion facility at “Concertina.net”, but couldn’t make it work. Any advice on using that would be gratefully received, because there’s something I’m not doing properly.
This was taken from Sean Smyth’s playing on “Lunasa’s” “Kinnitty Sessions” recording, but it was first recorded by Frankie Gavin on Charlie Lennon’s “Island Wedding” suite for traditional musicians and orchestra which is about 10 years old now. There are some slight differences between the 2 versions. On listening to both of them, in my opinion, Frankie Gavin plays it more as a strathspey than Sean Smyth, who seems to have smoothed it out a bit, and slowed it down, so that it sounds more like a hornpipe or slow reel. Tricky on flute or whistle, because of the rising “G#”s. The triplets are optional, and Sean Smyth has a link in the “return” of the first part which I just could not make out.
