The Chieftains will be at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA on Friday, October 5, 2012.
This is part of their 50th Anniversary Tour and should be a great show.
I have been invited to play uilleann pipes in the finale with them which I have done twice before and it is always amazing!
I will give a full report after the concert and hopefully some nice photos as well.
Cheers! Richard
Just back from a great concert at an amazing venue.
Had a wonderful time hanging out, eating, and playing pipes with The Chieftains.
Photos and more details later.
Cheers! Richard
Sounds like a lot of fun; congratulations! Paddy Moloney sure comes across as a genuinely friendly and warm person (as so exceptionally many Irish do) whenever I’ve seen him in concert.
The concert with the Chieftains went very well. We had a very pleasant time visiting with the band. They came to our local pub for dinner and drinks the night before as well.
The soundcheck was at 4:30 pm and I was able to go over a few tunes with Paddy.
We then had a nice catered dinner and then the front band, “The Black Brothers” went on from 7:30 to 8:00 pm.
The Chieftains took the stage at 8:25 pm and did their regular amazing show.
I was introduced at the finale and we played in a round-robin fashion where everyone gets to play a solo piece.
Afterwards we hung out with them for a bit longer until they had to catch a van to their next concert in San Francisco.

Well that’s exciting. I had an opportunity to play with the Chieftains, but they weren’t interested in an Uilleann piper being there, they wanted Scottish bagpipers.. So I said no thank you. Story of my life. Sounds like it would have been a grand time. I’ve always admired their musicianship.
