In my fevered state (stomach flue… don’t ask… don’t get it… don’t ignore ‘hints’ from your body) I am having a terrible time getting the Cameron Highlanders recording I have (Danu, Think Before You Think) adjusted to some pitch that i can match with any whistle I own, let alone to the notation that I’ve found.
Can anyone direct me to sources that might provide both recording and dots that actually match??
Danú play it as a D tune in Eb, so it’s just transposed up a half step. The setting on thesession.org is a transcription in D of this exact recording. Just play the those dots on an Eb whistle, and you’re all set.
Or run the recording through a slow-downer program like Transcribe, drop the pitch a half step, and play the dots on a D whistle.
Like many Scottish tunes, the original Scott Skinner setting is actually in A. You could play an A setting / transcription with an Ab whistle to match the Danú key of Eb, but that’s a bit odd, and the versions wouldn’t quite match anyway.
