Taylotsque pre 1900's

thats all i know… dose anyone have an idea what that would mean…in discription to a set of pipes???
“Taylorsque Pre-1900’s”

You’ve got William Taylor and all of the others who more or less copied him. So it would refer to one of the older makers who copied Taylor.

so you would mean… an older set of pipes…that copyed the taylor bros?
or the taylor bros copied them?

What Jim said.

What Jim said.

any ruff idea as to the price they might get?

Sure but it depends on the instrument. The chase for an older set of pipes is for the sound not for its historic value. The baseline for prices is what a new set costs amongst the various makers. Older sets, depending on their current state, often need refurbishing and re-reeding.

What Ted said. Only once.

“Taylorsque Pre-1900’s” could also refer to a Victorian singer-songwriter with a heroin problem.
“Shootin’ up the freeway on the road map of my wrist…baby I just scratched you off my list.”
(National Lampoon, Lemmings LP)

It is one of my biggest dreams to someday be the caretaker of an authentic Taylor set… sigh.

I doubt it will happen, but hey, dreaming about it provides me with a modicum of enjoyment.

Has anyone recorded a Taylor set?

Patsy Tuohey, among others:

Eoin O’Riabhaigh - did he use his Taylor set when recording the Tiomnacht CD?

Eoin plays a Froment chanter with that set, which was the one which was exumed after its owner had been in the ground about a week. He played the original chanter on the Piper’s Rock though.
Joe Shannon played a monsterous Taylor set, also Willie Clancy in his later days. Christy O’Leary was given a Taylor set - this seems to happen a lot, actually - all of these sets were gifts or hand-me-downs. The same with Billy McCormick and what’s-his-name, Martin Kerrigan. Sean McKiernan was given the Touhey pipes I think. What’s going on here!
Christy plays his on one track of a Boys of the Lough album.

WOW…and I thought that I played a clossed style of piping. That’s just incredible. What an incredibaly resposnive reed in that set o’pipes. Thank-you Johnathen for posting that. Do You mind if I email Terry Moylan (of NPU) a copy. I’m sure he’d be very impressed and place it on the files. It’s a recording that needs to be tresured. I need a source though before I email it [recording] to him.

It’s on Ross Anderson’s music page, which anyone can visit at

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/rja14/music/index.html

Lots of great archival goodies on that page, including more Tuohey stuff, and two Bernard Delaney wax cylinders (also played on a Taylor set). If you like tight piping, don’t miss the Richard O’Mealy tracks.

Jonathan

NPU already have it.It was published by them many years back(1986) on a tape NPU001 The Piping Of Patsy Touhey
Uilliam

Naaah…just think, you will soon be the proud custodian of a full set of Boisvert pipes..get your name engraved on it and in four score and 7 years from now someone will be wanting it like we all want Taylors now.

Cheers,

You’re right!!!
