T.Britton Luxe 1/2 Set FS

Hello,FYI-ing anyone who doesn’t habituate bobdunsire.com piping forums,I’m offering my Tim Britton 1/2 set in the trading post there.Thank you,Slainte,John aka the Wub

Hello,My apology for making this so obscure.I’ll try to amend-the set was made by Tim Britton in Fairfield.IA mid to late 90s,Built of African Blackwood other than the dronestock which is Cherry and the bellows of which I’m uncertain.Concert pitch D Chanter w/twist style stop valve,3 keys C,G#.&F,Tenor,Baritone(w/bell &u-bend),Bass(")drones &A drone with seperate switch.the drones are seated with a full set of guill-style reeds that play beautifully-includes full set of cane reeds. The chanter reed needs replacing but has a Bit of life left .The bag is an L&M oversize handsewn “elkhide”.The scottish Pipe Major style box is in good condition other than having suffered a sprung clasp which eventually broke off.Originally listed with an asking price of $5000-I am willing to consider offers (and will ATTEMPT not to become unduly surly). If photos are wished I trust to be able to figure out emailing them and will do so on request.Thank you for your patience, the Wub

Hello,I’ve come to the awareness that with 480 some views(a number of which being me)and no replies that I’m clearly doing something wrong.I cannot imagine its the Pipemaker and conclude that my pricing must be ludicrous.I FEEL that offering this 1/2 Set at $3000 may be the required tonic. My apologies for occasionaly bumping this item back up the list and Promise that if this reduction fails to interest anyone-I will not do so again.A very happy St. Patrick’s Day to Chiffers & Fipplers All-the Wub

Don’t take it to heart. The first few months of the year is not a good time to sell pipes. Tim Britton’s pipes have a good reputation and deservedly so. Your set will sell, but it might take time.

Wub,
You have only three post on the forum and all the three is to sell your set. You should post pictures, videos on YouTube where you play the set. If you have a good looking and sounding set you will sell it.
Miki

I own a TB 3/4 set and can attest that they’re wonderfully crafted. Tim himself posts on this board from time to time. What you might want to do other than the videos and audio clips is find out from Tim (depending on when your set was made) if it’s his old finger-hole placement or his somewhat newer. I forget where/when he made the major switch, but the hole-placement does a dramatic change somewhere along the line.

Dionys

You might want to post the set over on Pat D’Arcy’s Uilleann Obsession website.

Hello,my thanks to PJ for breaking the ice and kindly perspective,my thanks as well to nemethmik for his concise practical wisdom (although the youtube thing def. ain’t happenin -despite marketing value thereof).I’m a bit unclear on Dionys’ query-but will say that I remember Mr. Britton telling me that he was going to make an adjustment to my Chanter that involved filling and reboring one of the lower vents-E or F-I’m really not certain which and his workmanship is so masterful so that today I can see no evidence telling me which.Additionally Mr. B. shaved a bit off the length of the chanter-throughout which I practised at my hobby of impersonating an innocuous lump(who was not in fact cringing). My impression then is that although my chanter predates the reordering that you speak of-it has in fact been retooled to postdate. As for No E’s laudable if aweinspiring suggestion-White faced Simony says No (cough).Thank you , Best, the wub

Whitefaced Simony insists that I retract the absurd $3000 offer and raise it to $4000-blasted cat has me haggling with myself!o. (Sofa not to be included)

Wub, I have to admit that while I can’t buy your pipes I’m enjoying the dickens out of your copywriting.

um,er,gosh! charming of you to say -although posted 1 April-hmmm.As for buying them-I’m clearly a daft fool to even dream of parting with my beloved peebers-so can’t say but that I wouldn’t be greatly relieved NOT to sell them.On the sunny side of this is how enormously entertaining this forum is proving to be, I fear that unless I’m very(vewy) careful I may find myself, again, ritualisticaly playing stacatto triplets ,hours on end, happy as a clam; perhaps the early warning sign of which is contentedly humming Down the Back Lane aaaaaargh.wub

OK, so offers at $3000, so let’s raise the price to $4000 … people are probably thinking “I better buy these pipes before the price goes up again” … interesting sales strategy.

My thanks to everybody for humouring me -THIS SPLENDID TIM BRITTON 1/2 SET IS SOLD.wub
