Sweet Fifes/Flutes

Anyone tried the simple-sytem (non-keyed) Flutes and Fifes made by Ralph Sweet?? How good are they, and how far apart is the spread of the finger holes of the Flute? (I have very, VERY long, thin fingers, but there are some stretches I just CANNOT manage… lol)

Thanks all!

As I have mentioned in about 10 threads with the same opening question, they vary tremendously. Ralph is capable of making an excellent flute. He has also turned out quite a few duds. With his flutes, it is very important to either try them out before buying one or to buy one from someone whose opinion you trust. The finger stretch is very easy on the Low D flutes. The embouchure holes are what vary so much.

wow, I didn’t realize there were so many inquiries here about them… I guess I should have used the search function before I posted… blushes, thinking she should know better b/c she’s been here since March…

When you search, you should definitely include the flute board.

I’ve got a Sweet walking-stick flute. It plays pretty easily and has good volume, but would never be confused with a high-end flute. It’s a bargain at the price, though.
