I downloaded an MP3 of the most haunting whistle flute version with some wonderful ornamentation of the tune Summertime. The trouble is that I don’t know where it came from and it is in an MP3 so I can’t work the tune out. I think it’s in the key of C but I want to play it on either the Low G or Sindt D. Please can anybody help? Tia
Can you share the mp3?
Yes but I can only e-mail it as I don’t know how to upload stuff.
I don’t know the version you have heard but try it in either Am or Bm. Start on second octave E or F#.
e c e d c etc, etc.
Sum-mer time and the …
You should be able to work out the basic melody
Steve
I can’t get the notes to come out above the syllables even though I space it that way when I type it.

That’s ok, Selkie. I just thought you might have the URL of the site you found it.
Thanks for thinking about it ![]()
Hi Selkie,I’m sure that ‘Summertime’ appears on Dave Auty’s site(see links for the url).
I just checked out Dave Auty’s site but can’t find the tune there. ![]()

Selkie if it’s not too large you can email it to me and I can upload it.
Selkie,
I did have a version of on the Whistleworkshop of Summertime but deleted it. I decided to get rid of some excess baggage and slim the site down a bit. I have still got the gif. If this is the one and you want it let me know and I will email it.
I would recommend you listen to some original singing versions, they give more of a feel to the tune. Miles Davis also did a version which is very soulful.
Dave.
PS I transposed this tune from A minor to B minor, which I personally think falls better on the whistle. On the flute I prefer A minor.

Note to self,‘Must visit Dave Auty’s site more often.’…
Yeah Miles is really soulful,-soulful,but COOL on his version.
I must admit I went AAaagh when I saw the bit about minor A & B having no idea what they were but I just checked out the faqs and it B minor is the A whistle and I have been dying to find a few new tunes for that one so we shall see.
I also discovered I have a Chronsomethingy for my Winamp player which will slow tunes down but distort the scale. :-0
Thanks. It’s now posted at http://www.rit.edu/~eeg6662/cf/Summertime.mp3

I loved your post, it was so “acoustic”!
Robin
Nice one. ![]()
What key whistle was that played on?
Bravo Selkie! Some nice arpeggios and a bit of improv. there(bit of a closet jazzer eh?)What is that whistle? It has a lovely tone the way you play it. ![]()
Love it! Gershwin + whistle + trad ornaments remain jazz. Very inspiring.
It’s NOT ME playing the MP3. It’s Dave Auty who’s playing it. It is the one he removed from his site. Now you see what I mean about it being so wonderful.
Oh well, BRAVO DAVE !! ![]()
