Spot the pennywhistle...

No, really - that’s not my question here  (Even though it IS funny, eh?)

I was wondering whether anyone recognised the low whistle he is playing there… it has such a beautiful sound I love it to pieces (but at least I’m not sitting on it :sunglasses: ). According to the player it comes from a producer somewhere in Scotland, but I was a tad tipsy and cannot remember which producer he named.

Edit: sorry about the size of the pic!

Most definitely this is a Chieftain Low D. I have only encountered one in my life. That thing was so damn loud, it put my Colin Goldie Overton to shame. I didn’t get to play it, though

 Penys whistle (aka tiny-whistle, aka straight piccolo…) indeed!

Good shot! Don’t apologize about its size. The pic’s, I mean…

Now the low D is a Chieftain at 50:1 odds, though “Scotland” doesn’t fit.

Btw, stabilizing a low whistle with the knee can help speed…

If you stabalize it with your knee too much you won’t help your pitch, and you wont even be able to sound your bell note.

I concur, definately a cheiftain

It MAY be a Bernaulf whistle. They are produced in Scotland. So far as I know the production run has been EXTREMELY limited. They are available on Ebay from time to time. I have a contact email of DavidusHartley:at:aol.com (replace the :at: with an @). They are patterned after a Chieftain, but are supposedly easier blowing and designed for smaller hands.

Good luck!
Eric

Is there some reason he’s playing it out the corner of his mouth?

Its the Kenny G look, to get chix!

Thanks for the scoop, dude–I wondered why I had these holes in my jeans and could only get a barytone D below the low D…

You should also tell the guy in black pictured up Î there Î that he won’t get a proper bell tone of his high whistle the way he holds it either…

Oh gosh I just spotted the SECOND whistle in this picture..

Does that help him hit third octave notes?

Maybe he is playing it.

You know, drone and all…

It keeps it warm when it’s not in use?

Me too! I hope nobody comes by and shoves down on the end of it.

Are you sure that’s not a prostethic?

…or a decoy?

All you guys mocking it… it’s just whistle envy!

Whatever it is, it looks deadly, and it’s aimed right at the camera.

ducks

Cheers for the answers re the non-Generation whistle  Why he is blowing it out of the corner of his mouth… eh, dunno, but I do the same thing. I just find it easier to play that way.

- talking about whistle envy

giggles her way to the next lecure

He looks like it just dawned on him that he’d been keeping the soprano D’s mouthpiece under his butt.
