Somebody else tell me if this is a joke–I’m afraid if I click on the link I’ll get virtual anthrax.

Good god… SPAM on the Chiffandfipple!!!
I checked out the link and that looks like the most godawful invention ever!

Could someone intervene to “moderate” this spam ? Like moderately blow up this whole thread to dickens ?
:imp:

Gosh, if Spam like this starts floating around I’ll have to downgrade back to the old Mosaic browser to keep the Spam from operating.

I use the the old Compuserve email program to defuse viruses. It’s so old that the viruses get converted to base64 files and don’t run!

It seems that the more modern the software is, the more security holes it has and more problems arise from it’s use. Why Windows XP people must be spinning and reeling in their chairs.

There must be some form of legal action to take against someone who forces this garbage on people. Maybe what we need to do is to spam the ones who spam us and give viruses to the one who write viruses. Where is this world going to?

Ah, no need to fret about this kind of spamming program.
It’s quite easy to disable it, and this particular program isn’t the first to exploit the Windows application that creates the pop-up messages.
Just disable Messenger (the system service, not MSN Messenger) and you’ll never see a single pop-up spam ad from any of these programs… nobody uses Messenger anyway.

I’ve only used messenger to confuse my friends when they used the computer lab I worked in at school

Wow! A pretty girl who not only plays the whistle, but also knows enough about computers to play jokes on people with NetBIOS Messenger!
I’d profess my love for you and beg you to marry me Beth… if I wasn’t afraid your boyfriend would come to Tennessee and hunt me down!

ooo, how do you disable messenger?

Here’s a link to the tutorial provided by Direct Advertiser… who I think were responsible for the original software designed to inflict this new form of spam upon us.

No worries mate, I have windows XP, and My netbios is disabled, not just messanger. Besides anyone that spams me with a Pop up will have a very nasty email from their network admin when I use neo-trace pro (the program that law enforcement uses for tracing internet-violations) on their IP, and Complain to the Admin about spamming from their users. :imp:

They should ban all popups. I especially hate the one that claims to be a “taskbar update” to automatically keep your clock set properly…and it is actually a vile beastie to cause popup ads every time you go online.

There should be a law, with a minimum 5 year prison-term for all involved in the popup industry…I know, I know, prison overcrowding… :frowning:

I read this to my guy and he interrupted me after “love” to say “Who is this guy???”

Would rather go whistling where there is no path…and leave a trail.

You all really ought to try Ad-aware by Lavasoft. It will scan your computer for ad-software (eg. popup generators, usage trackers, etc) and remove them for you.
Search for them on Google. I use it once a week and it always finds something.
Best,
Chris

I’m glad Rich deleted this, but checking the spammer’s profile shows a total of 7 messages…there are 6 more of the same exact thing floating in each of the other forums.

What a jerk the spammer is…

The entire thing was done by a bot (a program) including the registration.

There are ways to stop it though.

look at the register page at http://www.starkingdoms.com to see an example.

Yep-Another like this
on the Flute board, but board deities haven’t squunched it yet. -Aaarghhh matey, p’raps a keel-haul 'l put such scurvy spamming lot in better mind of their trangressions.

Whoa Aaron!!

5 years in prison for those involved in the “pop-up industry”!

Isn’t that a little harsh??

How about, say six months in a toaster?

Judicially yours,

Vinny
