Has been adopted: a flute by HERVIEUX & GLET of Le Val, France. [ http://www.hervieuxglet.com/bienvenue/menu.htm ] The flute is made of beautiful and very dense Cocobolo, has nickel-silver adornments and a brass fully lined head. The flute also has a gidge (tuning cap/cork assembly), the original final on the threaded shaft was missing so I replaced it with knurled brass nut. The craftsmanship on this flute is very good, the bore is finely polished and there is considerable undercutting of all the toneholes (makes the flute very responsive). The barrel socket is fully lined, as typical of most French wooden flutes.

I believe this flute is based upon a Rudall, the bore is smaller than a Pratten and the long foot is typical of a Rudall. The voice of this flute is also full of overtones in a fashion typical of Rudalls. But the holes on this flute are very large. The F# hole is 12 mm in diameter (Pratten is only 11 mm), accordingly this is a honking flute with a big sound. I find this a very rewarding flute to play, but not very easy.

Do not presume that this was the inherent value of this flute, I rather think it is less than half it’s value. I simply have a knack for obtaining great deals on flutes and pass them along.
