I’m offering for adoption a Civil War era (mid-late 1800’s) single key flute in cocus with nickel-silver mounts, missing the ring on the foot. I’ld like $150 for her.
Just click on thumb-nail pictures to see larger pictures and if you want to see really large pictures then click on the image again that pops up.
I believe this flute was made by George Cloos, but I can’t quite discern the stamp (just one of the < that goes on each side of his GC seal). It has a sweet tone and is rather narrow bored. The embouchure and toneholes are in very good condition for a flute this age, with rather sharp edges (hasn’t seen much use). But is tuned to Continental High Pitch of that era (A = 452 Hz), I find this odd for an American made flute. I repaired a small crack in the foot (between the top post and tonehole, see picture) and a crack in the top tennon. The flute is structurally sound and ready to be played.
Please direct inquiries and correspondence through email or PM’s.
Thanks for checking out my offering.
All the Best!
