Solas Live DVD

Does anyone know the name of the very last reel on this wonderful DVD? It follows after the Newry Highwayman.

morgan, i just recieved my copy of the DVD in the mail today. ive heard that tune before but cant recall the name. ill try to find some info on it this week.
ive only had the DVD a few hours and ive already ran my wife and kids out of the house with it. i guess its something to do with having solas cranked up to 11 on the big screen TV :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

I went ahead and transcribed it and call it, provisionally, The Mystery Reel. There isn’t a whole heck of a lot to it, notewise. It’s all in the way those Solas-folk start playfully slow and then do that magnificent accelerando.

Also, John Doyle (guitar) keeps harmonizing it differently on the repeats.

If you find the name, send me an email at

Thanks.

If you posted your transcription, those of us who don’t have the DVD could take a stab at answering the question…

john doyle is a freak on guitar. i love his playing. …ive been learning how to play guitar using his video. its pretty cool.

I just got an email from Solas today about another tune I had asked about.

This other tune is on the DVD, in the set called Paddy Taylor’s, and is the one the fiddler plays alone with guitar. It is in G minor.

Guess what? Nobody in Solas can remember what it’s called. I just thought that was sort of funny.

So I asked Deidre (the singer) if she knew that last reel, the one we have been discussing. We’ll see what comes of that when she answers.

Yes, I will get it in nice notation and see if you bright chaps can name it for me.

Good Cheer…

Morgan, I PM’ed you about the other tunes in the PAddy Taylor’s set…
Thought perhaps it’s reasonable to put that info in here as well, in case we find out something

So; what tunes are in there…hmmm-hmmm…

Cheers;
Eivind
