Can anyone tell me how to slide notes? I’m working my way through Cathal McConnell’s tin whistle tutor tapes, and my man Cathal has just admonished his students to remember to slide the upper notes on Rodney’s Glory, which would be a great thing to do (he makes it sound absolutely lovely) if I could just figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?
If i have the term right you
slide into a note, a G to an A,
say, by covering the G hole and
sliding the G finger forward off the hole,
caressing (as it were) the inner
edge, until the hole is uncovered.
Makes a lovely, expressive wail.
Ah HA! Thanks very much–that helped a lot.
You can slide down, too. Just slowly cover the hole(s) for the next note. Try it on the last part of this little ditty:
X:1 T:The Streets of Cairo M:C L:1/8 K:G EF | G2 F2 E2 EF | GBFG E2 EF | G2 F2 E2 EF | GBFG E2 GA | BBBc BAFG | AAAB AGEF | G2 F2 E2 EF | GB FG E2 |]
Thanks Thornton–will try that.
