It’s a disappointment to hear that Ian no longer makes his pipes out of red lancwood. They maintained a bright yet mellow tone but at the same time the sound carries and doesn’t get drowned out. I hope you really enjoy your set.
I think from reading elsewhere, you are in Brisbane. Here in Perth, there is a lively little piping community - with I suppose Ormonde Waters being the leader.
Have never even held a set, so at 54, it’s a daunting undertaking (though I have played fiddle, mandolin, and whistle - and even clarinet and --whisper – recorder). Been fascinated by the pipes since hearing leo rowsome playing in a pub in Capel St in the late 1950s.
