I like reading people’s sig lines. I learn things and sometimes it helps give an impression of that person.
Everything is political and religious.
I find the commerical posts helpful too at least for information. The commercial folks don’t affect my buying habits.
What’s the background situation that prompted this poll? If folks are complaining maybe they need to walk it off. I’ve not seen a sig that offended me.
The difficulty
is that some of us are using the signature line
to make a full-blown political statement,
sometimes nearly 40 words long, often a
good deal longer than the post, attacking
the country or the political views of many
of the readers. Naturally some readers
wish to respond, however people cannot respond
outside the political board without breaking
the rules.
The appearance is that some of us are taking swipes
under circumstances where those who disagree can’t
respond.
There is a political board in which these statements
can fairly be made. The signatures began as brief quotations
or epigrams of a pithy nature–the best solution would
be if people would respect that.
Denmark is a swamp of debauchery, the pornography capital
of the universe, in which the socialist system has irradicated
the faintest glimmer of individualism and personal creativity.
There should be a possibility for implementing a function in the user profile allowing to disable display of signatures on a per-user base. Everyone would be able to decide by themselves whether they want to see signatures or not. I know this from other forums, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to implement.
The Democratic Party is beholden to the looney left, which hates the USA
because it’s a successful capitalism. How can anybody vote for a Democrat
anyway, after the debacle of Vietnam?
They’re hard to miss when they’re longer than the post, IMO.
Also they may be happening in fora you don’t frequent.
Anyway they are beginning to draw fire in music
related fora. They tend to be repetitive so they
do get noticed, in fact.
The suggestion has been floated that we
respond in our own signature
lines to signature political messages
with which we disagree. Interesting.
It’s a neat format, certainly,
cause you can really say what you think
without having to argue for it or
defend it.
One thing that would be nice, IMO, is if quotations
were attributed to the person quoted. That’s good
form anyway and it tends to make the thing
look a bit less like a personal political statement.
I continue to think signatures work best as epigrams
and quotations, reasonably brief–the heavy guns
reserved for the poli board. But it’s no big deal.
I don’t have a problem reading things that may be contrary to my own opinion. I don’t even have a problem reading things that may offend me. I don’t have to believe everything I read and I don’t even have to read everything I read.
I would suggest that it’s helpful to put the instruments you play in your signature line or something else like that that is related to this forum so that we have a better idea who does what.
I vote “Let them be.” I enjoy many of them and I ignore a few.
I think they give us insight into the person, and to the extent allowed, are free speech.
I know a few have been offended by my avatar, or by my siggy line. I have always then checked with Dale to be sure I’m not crossing the line. Should the line move, I’ll amend as required.
