Shaw Whistles?

Hello,
Just wondering, I’ve read that the Shaws are similar to the Clarke Originals which I love chiff and all. Are the Shaws louder than the Clarkes? That’s really my only complaint with the Clarke and if the Shaw is similar but better tuned and louder that may be my next whistle. Anyone know on that?
Thanks

My Shaw’s are indeed similar to, but louder than my Clarkes, so you’ll probably like them. One thing-- they seem to vary a lot. I had the chance to buy mine in person at Andy’s Front Hall quite a few years ago, and was surprised at how different one was from another. Try to select them in person if you possibly can. Also, they are a bit delicate, so treat them with care: I left my D in a back pocket one time and then sat down in my car which kinked it badly.

Well, I have a few clarkes and a Shaw, and I would not descrive the Shaw as louder. It is wonderfully breathy and mine is well in tune (though YMMV), but it does (wheeze) take a lot of air to play. Some people here I believe have modified their fipples to reduce the air requirements.

Just my $0.02  hope it helps.

That must be true, as mine’s quiet! I guess another thing that shows is how subjective much of this is… good advice given above to try it in person if you can. Why don’t you see if you’re close to someone on the board who has one (or more).
