Does anyone know of any new postings of Sessions we can hear on-line?
Something in a format easy to load on an old computer with Real Player?
Thanks,
Lolly
This is from the BBC
Lolly,
Take the short drive to Salt Lake and I’ll treat you to as much session as you can stand! ![]()

O.K. thanks for the reminder about the BBC session.
Does everyone out there like this sound?
Would you buy a CD that sounds like this, or is it too boring???
Lolly
Needs a few harmony lines, eh Lolly? ![]()
Boy, that brings back memories. ![]()
Let me relate a story and re-state the question!
I recently found a session to visit as an audience member, at a nice Irish Pub in So. Ca.
There were 24 musicians playing…10 violins, 2 guitars, a few flutes,
whistles, high and low, bodrans, an accordian, a bango, a hammered dulcimer and a set of pipes.
They had a big fine sound, but they didn’t play every tune in unison.
There was LOTS of harmonies, and whole-note lower parts.
Our table was near the low whistle guy and he did TONS of counter-melody things. Sometimes the Banjo would start the 3-tune sets and
play almost 1/2 the tune himself before others joined; likewise the flute
(who was way too into himself, ha ha). On one tune the accordian guy started it and even sang. Later someone called up their 10-yr-old kid
to sing along. A few of the younger members would put down their
instruments and get up and do an Irish dance.
IT WAS VERY INTERESTING!
So, I guess my question is: Is this what a session is all about? FUN?
Lolly
Yep Lolly.
But no two sessions ever seem to have quite the same dynamic. Most will center strictly on the tunes, while a few will include song/dance as well. Even a weekly recurring session can vary widely from one week to the next.

… On one tune the accordian guy started it and even sang. …
See? That’s the problem with accordion players.
Sounds like a fine time Lolly, what was the name of the pub? What city?
It was Dargan’s Irish Pub in Santa Barbara, Ca.
I’ll difinately visit it again!!!
