Sessions & other good stuff in Cork??

Part of our trip to Ireland this summer includes staying with friends in Cork. Anyone any advice for sessions/music shops or other interesting places to visit in Cork?
Thanks,
Sue

There are regular sessions in Da Barra’s in Clonakilty. Great place.

Heya Whistlepeg,

I will probably be somewhere in Ireland this summer, as I currently live in Limerick city. I’ll be back in Canada for a while, but want to get back and try to get an appartment in Ennis or something. Just let me know when you think you’ll be around Limerick or Clare, we might meet up in a session and compare… our whistles!

It’s worth visiting ‘Living Tradition’ - it’s the best trad music shop I’ve come across and will give you lots of info on sessions etc. From the centre of town, go across the big bridge (I can’t remember the name), up the hill, take second right (I think) and it’s on your left. The traffic’s awful, so it’s probably quicker to walk from wherever you’ve parked (if driving).
Jo.

‘The Living Tradition’ is in MacCurtain Street, on the south side. It’s run by Tony and Ruairí O’Flaherty - both musicians and recording studio owners - and it is definitely the best Trad. music shop in Cork.

Then, of course, there’s Shanna Quay - an hour or so away in pretty Adare, Co. Limerick!
