Anyone else going to Excalibur?

Anyone else going to Excalibur?
Didn’t know about it. Can you forward or post some info?
It’s a tiny faire.. Been around a while at a different location for a few years, but after squabbles with the owners of the land, they reached a new arragnement elsewhere this year.

I’m mostly going to hang out with friends camping. I suppose it all depends on what’s going on, but I am not sure if I’ll spend much time in the faire Sunday..I imagine I will see everything I want to in a couple hours Saturday.
You can tell it’s in Texas..they have “70+ Venders” …just say that with a southern accent, and you’re all set ![]()
Smile when yew say thet. ![]()
Have you been to this one before? The only one I’ve been to is the one down by Houston.
I’ve been to it a couple times..I have friends there…a lot of the actors carry over from faire to faire in Texas. It’s miniscule compared to the one in Plantersville.
Though I’ve never been, according to the calendar B.D. Riley’s has a tune session almost every Sunday at 8:00 pm. It looks like they’re on for that Sunday.

I’m not sure about any other places.
Jason
By the way, there are a few other pubs that are within a stone’s throw of B.D. Riley’s.
Fado Irish Pub (http://www.fadoirishpub.com/fado_pub_main.php?city=austin)
Mother Egan’s Irish Pub (http://www.motheregansirishpub.com/)
Dog & Duck Pub (http://www.dogandduckpub.com/)
Dog & Duck claims to be an English Pub, but they do a pretty extravagant St. Patrick’s Day.
And again, sorry, I’ve never been to Fado or Mother Egan’s. I’m just not a pub kinda guy. I’ve been to Dog & Duck a few times, but it’s been 10+ years.
It doesn’t look like these other pubs have sessions, but one never knows. And again, they’re all basically downtown and within 10 blocks of each other. OK, maybe not a stone’s throw, but pretty close. ![]()

I’m probably going to Austin in a week or so, and will stay for a few weeks at least. Keep the suggestions coming for places to hear music, or other local spots of interest…
Well, I thought that we might run over to Lockhart for the faire, but the weekend has other requrements. Have fun.

The weekly session in Austin is at BD Riley’s pub (on 6th st. at Brazos, across the way from the old Driskill hotel) on Sunday evenings from 8ish til…?
Also some other decent irish music being played locally by little bands. Sunday afternoons from noon-3 at Mother Egans (6th street and Rio Grande-ish) with a band called the Tea Merchants (www.theteamerchants.com), and the same band playing Tuesdays at the Austin Fado pub on Tuesdays from 9-midnight. Check with the Texas Celtic Music Network (www.texcelt.org) or the Celtic Cultural Center (www.celticcenter.org) for any other happenings in the area.
Have fun!

Hi to Rob and Dow! It’s always great to hear from other whistle players in the Austin area. I live in Dripping Springs (about 45 minutes south of Austin). If either of you are up for it, I’d love to invite you out to my music studio. I have a nice sound system that’s fun to play with, and some ways that I play whistle music that you’ll either find intriguing or awful (depends). What style of playing are either of you into?
Dude..if you guys didn’t want me to play at your session, you could have just told me…you didn’t have to cut the power to all of 6th street on Sunday! ![]()
(as you can guess, no session Sunday…disappointing
Though we did find a great blues band playing a few blocks up the road)
Yeah, I don’t know what happened. When I came into work yesterday we had all kinds of problems because of the power outage.
My wife said she saw on the news that there was apparently some kind of underground explosion around 9th & Congress that knocked out power for a lot of the downtown area.
Sorry things didn’t work out man.
Jason
No problem, stuff happens ![]()
We were walking up 6th looking for a place to hang out, and saw like 6 bicycle cops squatting around a pipe coming from a building, spraying it with a spritz bottle looking for leaks, and the entire area smelled strongly of gas.
So, we hurried along our way. ![]()
