Seery Rudall model

Anyone played one of these? I’m a first time flute buyer trying to decide between the M&E, Seery Pratten or Seery Rudall models. I’ve seen lots of posts about the Seery Pratten, but just wondered if anybody had any experience with the Rudall model seen here:

Also, really sorry to bring this up once again (yes, I have used the search extensively), but any thoughts about Rudall vs Pratten for a beginner? I’m thinking that this is basically like the D-18 vs D-28 discussion in the guitar world. One is softer but more precise, the other is louder but less subtle. Is that about it?

To my knowledge, Desi does not yet make a Rudall-style flute. His flutes are based on a Hudson Pratten. He does, however, offer a split left-hand/right hand center section, at least on unkeyed flutes.

Ah, sorry… my mistake:

Desi’s other design is a smaller-holed model. This is a fantastic flute as well. Though it has the body style of a Pratten it plays more like a Rudall. The smaller tone holes and less daunting spacing make for more economy of air and lightning-quick ornamentation. It still has plenty of volume for session work but the tone is more focused with slightly less bark. If you’re not sure you’re up to the demands of a Pratten-type flute or if you have smaller hands this might be a better choice.

kevin…
he uses a Hudson-Pratten as a model?
Do you know which one (seeing as there are only 5 or 6 left)?

Nope, just that this is what he told me. For all I know, he may have been passed measurements from some other source.

You know, if I’m not mistakenn, Desi does make a Rudall model as well. At least it seems like he once told me he did. Maybe it was just the same flute with the joint in the middle. I haven’t tried one. Sorry to muddy the water.

In any event, the small-holed Pratten described above is just that, a small-holed Pratten*

*My apologies to Andrew who is likely rolling over in his grave that I would say such a thing…sure miss those scoldings.

Desi is always experimenting, and I believe they are expanding the product line, and will include a Rudall-style at some point.

Does anyone know if Seery offers 8-key flutes or just ones with 6 keys? His website has been down for a couple of weeks now.

At this time, we do not make a rudall bore flute. The flutes that we make are all pratton bore. Just small or regular holes. We do make a model that has an extra joint in it which some people call a Rudall style but it is in reality a 5 piece pratton bore flute. We are working on a new site so please bare with us as we complete it. If you have any questions about our flutes, please contact us at seeryflutes@gmail.com I would be happy to answer any questions.

Take Care…

Tweeto - when the Seery site was up, it definitely showed 8 key flutes so unless Dralore pops back in and says they don’t…I’m pretty sure they do make 8 keyed flutes.

Eric

POP… Yes, we do make 8 key flutes.
