I have a nice keyless Seery witch I can manage quite well. Now I would very like to know if any of you has a keyed one and if you had the keys hadded on and for how much?

If memory serves, this is available as a special order directly from Mr. Seery himself–though I have no idea of how long his waiting list is, or what his prices for keyed flutes run.
The keyless Seery I have is a dependable, high-quality flute…I would think a keyed flute by him would be a real prize.

Leonard - If you get a price quote for keys, please let us all know. I’m currently waiting on a keyless Seery, and I’ve toyed with the idea of retrofitting keys at some future date if I like the flute enough.

I tired to call Mr. Seery directly, but the number I had did not work. So, I called Custy’s Music shop in Co. Clare and the gentleman there told me that he believed that Seery no longer makes keyed flutes (Kevin Krell also told me this). Apparently, Mr. Seery is spending most of his time these days making Uillean pipes instead. The man at Custy’s was going to ask Mr. Seery himself to make sure about the keys issue and then get back to me, but I’ve never received a response from him since.
I am totally in love with my Seery polymer and would really like to have a keyed wooden version, but I guess I’ll just have to get something else.
That is depressing news. I really hoped to have the option to add keys later if I wanted, too. I’m not sure it would have changed my mind about getting a Seery, since I really wanted one, but it is frustrating.

I spoke to Desi about this about a year and a half ago, and keys were 60 pounds each. He didn’t have time to do it then, but said that I could fit it in a few months later. I subsiquently went back to playing mainly boehm, while waiting on a keyed McGee, so I didn’t follow up.

Alan Doherty of Dublin(who plays in the band Grada) was used to play
a keyed flute made by Des Seery,altough he has leaved all the keywork and covered the holes with blue tack:D!
While I don’t have experience with Desi’s keys, some time ago I ordered a Seery from Steve of Shanna Quay http://www.shannaquay.com/. There was a problem with the tuning of the flute and Steve interceeded with Desi for me to resolve the problem - quickly and successfully I might add. Anyway, my point is that Shanna Quay’s customer service is second to none and I believe Steve has a relationship with Desi. I’m sure he could get an answer to your question quickly.

I just finished a letter for Mr. Seery, asking for infos about keys and my flat C sarp, I’ll post it anyway. And I’ll tell you all about the answer.
Am I wrong or the only other keyed flute this cheap would be the M&E?

I spoke to Desi today. His number, dialed from the U.S. is: 011 353 1 286 6192 (011 is for international direct dial, 353 is Ireland country code, 1 is Dublin area local code, number is 286 6192). He will make keyed flutes in Delrin, Mopane, Leadwood, Ebony, Olive & Purpleheart (small amount of of the last 2 woods). It’s just hard to schedule them around all the keyless flutes he has to make, as he has to change the setup when doing flutes, whistles, pipes, etc. This is why you’d have a bit of a wait, and Desi needs to schedule this for you himself. He post-mounts keys, & can retrofit, but he likes to do a custom job, rather than off-the-rack. That way key placement and the location of the touches is to the player’s liking & comfort, rather than the other way around.

Hurray! That’s great news Kevin. It also shows what a craftsman Desi really is…which is also quite likely why I find myself at the 9 week point waiting for my keyless Seery.
Oh, I’m sure it will come in well within the “Irish Time” version of the expected 6-10 weeks.

I’ve been told by Steeve from ShannaQuay Desi still work on keys but he told me to get ready to pay at least 200 euros per key!!! 
Is this possible? 200 euros per key is alomost half of the price of the flute itself…

Stupid question from a guy whose first language is not english… What’s the difference between post-mounting and retrofiting keys?
By that he just means that since Seery post-mounts keys (without pinblocks) the keys can be retrofit onto any Seery.
As opposed to making keys with blocks that are part of the wood or plastic and have to be made as part of the flute when the flute is first made.

Desi’s more of a talker than a writer, which is why email wouldn’t be an effective means of communications. Your best bet is to call him for instant gratification.

Just remember that to add keys, the additional tone holes must also be drilled into the flute body.
