I am well aware of the great poly flutes Seery makes but doesnt he also make blackwood flutes as well? I was thinking that this is what Tom Doorley of Danu used other than the Seery polymer. Is this true? ALSO-
A friend has an older Seery polymer that has the traditional head joint but the pictures of the poly’s on the site show the raised emboucher. Is this standard now?
On the website is says they are offered in mopane wood but it appears that only the whistles and uillean pipes are offered in blackwood. There’s a mention of “Keyless with Delrin® body and African Blackwood Headjoint” though.
Desi does make flutes in blackwood (and there’s also an olive wood one on the web page).
The flute at the top of the website is mine, one Desi made a couple of years ago with the raised embouchure for a deeper chimney. The standard flute headjoint is depicted in the other pictures, except for the top 2 in the multiple flute photo. In fact, for flutes other than the standard keyless polymer, best to contact Desi directly for pricing and availability. The info is on the Seery website at http://www.worldtrad.org/Seery/ . Sorry, no email.
Tom Doorley plays a 3-key Seery polymer (with the keys broken and holes plugged) and recently received and plays a wooden Olwell.
Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought. Also, I spoke to Kevin Crawford on Feb 28 and asked him to contact you about WFO but he said he had actually spoken to you earlier that week. What a treat speaking with him.
thanks for the info everyone!
Erik,
Thanks, it never hurts for people to keep my name in front of potential flute players for WFO2 (about 34 tentative so far). There’s probably enough talent out there to even put together a third 2-CD compilation, but I think I’m pushing my luck and should at least diversify.
I did follow up with Kevin Crawford, after meeting
him back in September in Santa Monica, CA. We did converse by email around the time you mention, and he expressed interest in providing a track, but I probably won’t hear from him again until after they finish the current tour. I don’t know if he actually gets all my e-mails, so I will be sure to persist and try get an update from him when appropriate.
