Second octave overtone (sic) fingerings

Do you use second octave
a XXX XXX
and
b XXX XXO

they go particularly well on my Rose following
c’ OXX XXO

I used to use them in The fife tunes from Bill Ochs book then forgot about them. Is it common practice?

I haven’t (except by accident), but I’m going to try them out on Julia Delaney tonight. Might come out better that way…

I will on occasion. Sometimes (with fast songs) I get fumble fingers, and those fingerings have helped me a few times. :laughing:

No, but I should.

Only by accident. It’s why i mainly to use d = oxx xxx as i can really lean into it without it going up into the fifth.

Don’t you find problems with ornamentation using that fingering?

Not tried. So far just used it after c’ when it sounds much better and comes more easily than the standard fingering. Not thought of ornamenting a c’ how would you do it?

I was thinking more about the a & b ornaments using those fingerings. While i can play a nice clear roll on the d and e, those rolls are incredibly weak and almost inaudible on my whistles using the same fingering for a & b.

A c roll can be done using ooo xxx - oxx xxx - ooo xxx - xoo xxx - ooo xxx

Oh I see. That c# roll works well and the c’ c#’ rolls work as usual: cut above, tap below.
