Seamus Ennis on BBC

Just came across one of the great Radio Ballad shows from the early 1960’s.
It describes the life of a road construction worker through interviews and songs written by Ewan McColl.

About half way through theres some pipes accompanyment to a song and about 7 minutes from the end Mr. Ennis is featured again singing The Hot Ashfelt.

They were excellent shows.

On miami’s south beach that tune’s called the

Hot Assfelt

(ok hardee har har;-)

But in the Wesht, they say Hawt Asshfelt.

Or the Hot Arse Felt

By the way, and I don’t mean to go off topic or plugging anything, but
Thanks for the very kind review in the latest pipers mag!!

But back on topic and kinda off topic.
Do yourselves a favour and listen to the BBC radio ballads show. The music is soo gooood!!!
I may start a thread in one of the other forums because I realise these radio shows were not about piping at all. But, they are still great shows!!!

Tommy.

Sounds like the Copper family hanging out with Brecht and Weill. Filthy commies.
Oh! For want of a scroll bar! The ballad with pipes is at 16:38:00. That is, 38 minutes into the program…past four in the afternoon? Why are they using military time? Hit the “15 mins” button twice, the “5 mins” once, wait a bit. A fellow will whistle the Irish Washerwoman right before it starts. Hrmmm…is that a McPeake I hear? Sounds like old Francie II, no hard D, vibrato on the back D. That is Seamus belting out the Hot Asphelt, though. I seem to recall that Seamus wrote one of these toe-tapping manifestos himself.

Hold down the “start” button to fast-forward.

ANyone know a way to capture this stream?
