Santa Cruz, CA Gathering

Alright Central California coastal Pipers, I was able to persuade herself that it would be a nice time to invite you to my home Friday evening at 5:00 pm give or take for some music and BBQ. My great Grandfather bought this home in 1908 when it was only 27 years old and it has stayed in the family since then. It seemed to me to be a great place for some music so if you know of any other ITM musicians that you think might be interested please let them know as well. all I ask is that you PM me to RSVP so that I can cook enough for everyone and please BYOB

(it is a long url I know but it should take you to a sight that has a map. we rent this place out in the summer to raise money for its taxes and upkeep)

Cordially,
Jamie

Oops, that is Friday May 18th

Darn, wish I could be down that way then…Sounds fun.

So who is playing UPs around the Monterey Bay area these days?

I know Mike and David Brewer do in Santa Cruz…George Grasso has fled the country and was last spotted in Galway…

There’s the redoubtable Sean Folsom down in Monterey…Who else?

I do know of a concertina player that used to go to the Britannia Arms session in Aptos who happens to have a Dave Williams full set that has seen relatively little use…Not sure if he still has it, though…That was quite a few years ago.

Channing,

Would that concertina player happen to be named Malcolm? (as I type, I ruffle savagely through my wallet for his card) Bummer you can’t make it. Maybe I’ll see you next time in Seattle? Or perhaps in SoCal this fall? Later.

Thanks Jamie for hosting this. I’ll be sure to let the local sessioneers know about it.

Hi Jamie,

Sounds like a great time to be had.

David Brewer is playing UPs now. I also play UPs and have recently performed with David.

I sure would like to know the name of the concertina player with the Williams set.

There are a few musicians that frequent the Britannia Arms in Cupertino on Thursdays that may be inetrested. I will let them know.

Cheers! Richard

I’m thinking Ribs cooked slow so that they fall off the bone just right ummmm…

Jamie–you’re killing me! I’ll be heading up to St. Paul that day, otherwise the banzai run up to Santa Cruz would be irresistible.

-Larry

… we could always see if TK can provide us BBQ’d meat like substances (red meat has gone the way of the dinosaur for moi) falling off of the bone.

This CA gathering has potential to become an annual thing I am thinking, and one that may entice me to venture west… in addition to the many splendid tionols I hear tell are also not to be missed.

Have a great time y’all.

Thanks for the invite! I am in Cupertino on the San Jose border, not too faraway but the baby hates car trips so I’m not sure I would be able to make it. I will talk to some other people in the area, though, maybe I can get someone to ride along and entertain the baby in the back seat so he won’t fuss too much.

Have fun if I don’t make it, though! I can’t wait till the baby is a bit older & I can get back to playing more…

Justine

Oh common Justine throw that baby in the car seat and come on over.
I have three kids that will be there and I have an extra Pac & play that you can use. Hope to see you there.
Jamie

 Ok people I’m trying to get an idea if how many of you and your friends might show up so I can shop for food. Also parking is easy but there is a trick to it as the home has no parking on East Cliff drive and no parking behind it in the alley. So you have to park 1/2 block back from the beach on 12th ave. From there you can walk though my uncle’s property that has only a grey three car garage with peeling yellow trim on it and no adress number Check the map on the rental web sight for 12th ave. its just off a little road called prospect that T’s into E Cliff
If you get lost call the house at 831-475-1330
Jamie

On the web sight there is a tab that says map this property.
If you click on it a map comes up that needs to be zoomed in on before street names become readable. Once you know which one is which switch over to the sattelite image by clicking on the tab. From prospect ave the Garage property is 6 houses down on the right also the orange marker is NOT on my house. My house is 6 houses down from prospect not the two that it shows.

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it this time, especially since my husband is out of town & I have to pick him up at SF airport early Saturday morning. But I hope to meet you soon! Have you ever thought of coming over the hill for a few tunes?

J.

I have thought about tunes in San Jose but I actually live near Fresno. I will be in Santa Cruz again for about 1 1/2 weeks in early June like the 12th mabe something around there will work.
Jamie

Cool, KUP!
