Greetings. This is my first post. Been learning the whistle since last July or so. Currently playing a Walton’s LBW and several PVC models we made at home. Have a Sindt d on order. I have a trip to San Francisco in the next few weeks and am curious as to what resources (stores, tutors, sessions, etc.) might be available to help me along. Any recommendations?
Hi Skaught, and welcome.
Since none of the locals has jumped in yet … The Lark in the Morning shop may be worth a visit, though they’ve apparently moved now to the Mission District from their scenic location near Fisherman’s Wharf. I’m not sure if the old Hobgoblin Music shop is still operating in South SF. It’s out of the way, and a bit creepy with all the cemeteries!
The best known session venue in the city is probably The Plough and the Stars, with regular and slow sessions and dancing. There’s also a weekly session at the Starry Plough in Berkeley, a BART ride across the Bay.
