Hi all,
I’m moving to Berkeley shortly and am curious about Irish scene in Berkeley and the surrounding area.
Any session recommendations?
I’ll have only sporadic (at best) internet opportunities after the 19th, but hopefully I can get some info before then…
Thanks!
Micah
There’s a regular session in San Francisco at Ireland’s 32 on Geary St.
That should get you a list of all California sessions listed at The Session website. One’s in Berkeley, and those in SF and Novato are relatively close, depending on your transportation (got a car? If not, BART and public transport in SF is fine, but Novato would be a pain).

(Various session – don’t know if it’s up to date, but hope so)
That ought to get you started. . .

Theres a session in novato! at moylans!?!? ![]()
I’ve been in walking distance (10 minutes) of a session all this time!
How weird is that?
Sunday nights at The Starry Plough in Berkeley, there is a very well established session. Very fast playing. Tons of fiddles. Very noisy patrons. Soloist singers are encouraged.
There is a “slowplayers” session for beginner to intermediate players that takes place in peoples’ homes on Sunday afternoons. Very friendly and tolerant. You can even bring sheet music if you desire. You won’t be mocked. They have a Yahoo email list for details. You can contact me for that. Most of the time, the session is in Berkeley or close by.
