Music Stores in San Francisco?

I’m off to a conference in SF. I have no intention
fo going to the conference, of course, but
I do wonder where’s the best place to look
at whistles and flutes, etc? Advice welcome, Thanks

It may not be the best place to look, but it’s sort of fun to visit the Lark in the Morning store. Prices can be extravagant, and I know people here aren’t happy with their mailorder business (never tried it, myself), but it’s sort of fun to walk in and play all sorts of instruments from all over the world.

Have fun,

Aaron

Thanks! Aaron, do you know roughly where
they’re located? If not it’s fine. I’ll check the yellow pages.

Other suggestions, anybody?

There’s one reall big one on haight street (Haight-Ashbury Music or something). They don’t have that big of a selection of whistle, but they a LOT of cool insturments.

Lark is good because you can actually try out a lot of whistles and flutes without buying them, I tried about 60-70 whistles and bought about 4 or 5. I actually got to use a tuner that they gave me, I think when I go again I’ll bring some rubbing alcohol to clean out the whistles before I try them. Just go to their website for directions

Not too bad if you get to play the whistle you are going to buy.

Thanks, will do. Now I know where it is, too.

Jim…if you get a chance, drive up to San Anselmo–
Amazing Grace Music, John Pederson owns and operates
the store and either restores, builds, or rebuilds many
different Irish woodwind inst., including the uilleann pipes,
wooden flutes, whistles, and more. Should be a great selection.

Lorenzo, where is San Anselmo? Sorry, geographically
challenged here. I’m afraid I won’t have wheels. Jim

San Anselmo is on the North side
of the Golden Gate Bridge. Not sure
of driving time or exact distance..
guessing 20-30 min from SF.

Thanks, see what I can do.
