$6,000 for a very late Rudall-Carte with a bad crack repair, no tuning slide, and nickel-silver keys and rings.
It’s a good thing that when it doesn’t sell he “…will take it as a sign [he] should keep and it - and happily.”
For a lot less you can buy a used Olwell 6-key with silver rings and tuning slide, no cracks … which will play infinitely better.
It would seem I missed a previous post for this same thing.

Julia, it HAS got a tuning slide - the normal, so-called “French” type common on cylindrical bodied wooden flutes with Bohm heads - i.e. the extended top body tenon with double-sleeved socket in the head. Please also see my contribution in the other thread. This flute isn’t remotely worth what the vendor thinks, but that doesn’t mean it is necessarily in any way inferior. Whilst sterling keys etc. may add to perceived value (and certainly to original cost) and are cosmetically nicer, they don’t have any advantage over German Silver in performance!
Well German Silver takes a fair bit more rubbing so its rather useful for improved muscle tone.
fact is, a silver key is much easier to repair than a German Silver one.

I’ve not yet played a cylindrical Rudall of 8 keys that i’ve liked. Theoretically it should be a good player, but I’ve always been disappointed. Perhaps it’s just because I’m a conoidal connessieur (sp?). Or prude. Ha!
