Rudall Carte Radcliff system flute on ebay

Here’s an interesting flute just up on ebay. Its a Radcliff system flute, kind of like a Boehm flute with (more or less) simple system flute fingering (probably a gross over simplification, but I’m sure someone will correct me). I believe this was the type of flute played by Paddy Carty, so I guess it works for ITM.

I heard about this from Malcolm Reavell, who is the seller. I suspect some people here know him. I recently bought a Bilton flute from him and it was a very pleasant experience!

I bought a Rudall Carte in ebonite too (but it’s the Rockstro model, not the Radcliff version like this).

It was out of curiosity, and on the recommendations of hearing some of the youtube clips.

I’ve lost count of how many months ago - maybe in middle of summer?

Just to warn anyone: I’ve not got mine back yet. The flute repairer keeps on finding new problems with it, even though I could play some eerily unpleasant music which I liked but no one else does

It’s taken months, and no sight of mine yet. This one has needs for pads etc. I was quoted just under £500 for that, since it constituted an overhaul. The pads are not the standard 17mm Pisoni types with the 3.5mm hole in the middle for the rivet and screw.

Just be prepared to find an experienced dedicated Rudall Carte flute repairer, and pay anywhere from 100% of the base listing price to 200% for the repairs alone. :boggle:

I was prepared to pay 100% of what I paid for mine for the repairs…but after all these months, I’ve decided that I like playing the triangle instead. Ding! Ding!

Perhaps your repairer likes it and doesn’t want to give it back.
