The cap needs work, but it looks like it is free fom cracks. Other wise the photo of it looks nice (although fuzzy).
I hope it sells for more than I can afford, otherwise I will feel regret.
I like the short flutes.
Well, FWIW, it went to a UK bidder for £175! (The seller is only half-an-hour’s drive from me!!!) I was in for it, but not prepared to go anywhere near that for any simple system piccolo, even a RC! I got my own ebonite one (#6974) for £140 a year ago, and I’ve since acquired an older, block mounted keys one #1783 (in excellent nick save for a missing Eb key - which is not going to be easy to replace!) for much less than that; but then, the seller didn’t advertise the stamps, nor were they visible on the photos - it just looked like a nice, older piccolo, so it was a VERY pleasant surprise when it arrived in the post! (I’m not saying what I paid for it!) ![]()
On this one I think the buyer has over-paid (the bid went up a big jump well before the end and scared other bidders off). I’d have gone to £150 if I could have afforded it. With my current finances, I wasn’t prepared to go beyond £100 (Come on, guys, someone make me some offers on my FOR SALE flutes!) and was hoping it wouldn’t attract enough attention and I might get it a bit under-valued. No such luck! Still there are plenty of decent playable (or easily made so) simple system 4-6 key piccolos out there. The RC name is worth something, but given the rather static market in non-Boehm piccolos, not quite that much, IMO.
Lots of junkers too. I have at least a whole box of simple system piccolos and even some of the good ones, like my Boosey and Son, have quirks. A nice thing about having a box of piccs/flutes is you can try different heads on other bodies and see if the results work better.
Waiting on a bona fide HF Meyer at the moment. Ivory head. HF was supposed to be utterly the bomb for German flutes. How many squeakers are you up to, jem?
