My family and I are traveling from North Carolina to Delaware to visit my sister. I noticed that the Maryland Ren Fest was happening at the same time. Everyone is excited about going. I was checking out the website for the fest and noticed that two of the craftbooths that will be there are Patrick Olwell selling bamboo flutes and The House of Musical Traditions selling whistles (among other things).
I’m in big trouble!! I’m actually sitting here doing a budget to see how much money I can free up to bring to the fest!!!
I have to practice my acting skills, " Oh look honey, someone is selling bamboo flutes. Let’s walk over and have a look." Muaaahhhhhahhhhhhh!!! ![]()
When is the Maryland Ren Fest? Or what’s the website? Maybe I can talk my mom into taking me,depending on when it is.I’m utterly broke at the moment, but I’ll be getting a paycheck soon, and I want an Olwell bamboo! ![]()

I’ll see you there Kelly!

Thanks!
Oh rats,I just asked my mom and she said no way.
Grumble. If only I could drive! Ah well.
Sorry Kelly.
I feel responsible for your bad mood. ![]()
If (ha ha ha ) I get one, I’ll name it Kelly in your honor. ![]()
It’s okay, don’t worry about it.I suppose I don’t really need one anyway. And there will be other times when I can get one.I live in the same state as Patrick Olwell, for goodness sake!

While at the MD RenFaire, do not under any circumstances miss the Pyrates Royale.
They freaking rock. I think they’re usually in White Hart Tavern.
I think a few of them came to the Charlotte faire for a weekend last year.
I hope they’re there again this year, I don’t know when I’ll ever make it
to MD again.
Thanks, I’ll check them out. I go to the Charlotte faire every year once or twice. I’ve not been to any of the others around the country. How is the MD in comparison?
I would say that the MD faire is what the Charlotte one aspires to be.
Like Charlotte, it is a permenant structure type of faire (some faires,
like the Raleigh one rent space, say from the state fairgrounds, and set
up tents or use the modern structures), and has many similar games
and shows. It’s hard for me to comment on the story line or the cast,
as I didn’t go in garb, so didn’t really interact with those folks. But
there seemed to be a LOT of mundane-type people in street clothes.
There are a couple of tavern structures with tables and benches, which
I think they need in Charlotte. The taverns really added to the feel for me,
as you can carouse over a trencher and some ale, and be entertained in a
raucous manner. They don’t allow weapons anymore, though. Someone
probably got too raucous in the tavern (or maybe it’s that MD’s a more
liberal, gun-controlly state than NC… not that there’s anything wrong
w/ that)
Since the MD faire is older and apparantly more prestigious, they seem to
get some big name entertainment occasionally. When I went in 2002, the
Mediaeval Baebes flew in from England to perform. They were incredible.
Anyway, I think you’ll be pleased. It’s nice to get a new faire experience
after going to the same faire for several years.
Oh, and House of Musical Traditions has a booth too, which is also a pretty
financially dangerous prospect.
The MD RenFest is saturday and sunday for september and october. I bought an Olwell but I did not see HMT. It is great fun for everyone in the family.
