Hi Francisco,
Do you mean low in volume or low in pitch?
You can make them louder (volume) by opening the tongue slightly. This can be done by holding the reed open slightly with your left hand thumb and index finger while rubbing the reed tongue with your right hand thumb nail. This will create a tiny bit of friction heat and bend open the tongue slightly. Do this gradually so you don’t over do it. It’s easier to open the reed than it is to close it.
You can raise the pitch by wrapping a bridle around the reed. A rubber “O” ring is ideal for this task if you can find one that is just the right size. If not a piece of waxed thread will do. The shorter the tongue the higher the pitch. This may also close the reed. If this happens try opening the tongue slightly as I mentioned above.
Plastic drone reeds are not uncommon. I think they sound like shighte but each to their own
There is a whole variety of “composite” drone reed possibilities. For example I have brass body drone reeds with sugar pine tongues. These sounds rather good to my ear. Maybe do a search on this forum for “composite reeds” and see what comes up.
Good luck!
Patrick.
