Composite drone reeds

What do people think about composite drone reeds? I’m playing around with a set of drones whose reeds may have past their prime. A reputable maker (I forgot who exactly, but I’ll find it online) was selling sets of composite drone reeds for $50. How would these play? Any ideas?

My BC Childress composite reeds work just great for both drones and regs.

I’ll second the Childress Drone reeds. Brass and Styrene. I’ve adjusted them once in 5 years. Always strong and consistent.

Stabilty is one thing - air consumption the other. This isn´t significantly higher for the tenor and barnitone and I don´t think worth the trouble. I found though that it is important for the base. A reed with a flat closing tongue simply consumes less air here and if you use a cane tongue the sound-difference is minimal. If I wouldn´t know I wouldn´t even notice it.

You can test it easily: Close the tongue with the tip of your index-finger and suck the reed (with your mouth and never with your lungs). A composite reed closes airtight.
