Reed making workshop by Seth Gallagher
11Am to 5 pm

Wizzer, would that be Feb 16? I don’t seem to find any details at the link you posted.

Yes Feb 16.
I got the flyer from the IAC and it gave much more detail than on the site. The reed making seminar is early. I believe 11Am. You can get the number from the link and call the IAC for more information.

This is from their new letter:

Uilleann Piping Day at the Irish Arts Center
Following the success of this event in April 2002, uilleann pipe classes will be conducted by Jerry O’Sullivan (Eileen Ivers Band), Ivan Goff (Riverdance on Broadway) and special guests including a reed-making workshop conducted by Seth Gallagher. All levels are welcome: beginners to advanced. Don’t forget the acoustic, solo piping recital in the theater after the workshops: all are welcome to attend, pipers and non-pipers!
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH 2002 WORKSHOPS AND RECITAL

I might go..this might be a dumb question but …do we bring our pipes or is it just something were there not needed? ie they’d be sitting in a case all day? I suspect we’d be listening and not playing??

Ouch, That was dumb..I thought it was just reedmaking…I see there are lesson workshops…Pipes are needed.

I went last year. Ivan, Jerry, Seth (reed making) and Cillian Vallely presided. They broke up the group into three tiers based on ability and each attenpted a group lesson which consisted of learning a tune or two. Seth gave reed making guidence at the midway break. After the workshop was completed, they performed in the IAC’s small cozy theater. First were solo performances and then they played together. That last part was raucus and included some harmonized improvisations. The recital is free with the workshop. I have been to several workshops at the IAC and they have been all well attended (about 30 pipers last year I would say).

Just a reminder

I stopped at Seth’s shop today and picked up some reed making supplies. He was extremely helpful with my novice questions.
I did ask him if he was bringing any supplies with him to the workshop and he said only for those that have requested that. So If you are going to attend and are looking to pick up some slip, staples or whatever you will need to give him a call and set that up. His number is (845) 265-5508
